The guidance released by the CDC on Wednesday shows that cases among those over age 85 result in death in more than 10%, and hospitalization in between 30 and 70 percent of cases. "The risk for serious disease and death in COVID-19 cases among persons in the United States increases with age," the CDC said. "Social distancing is recommended for all ages to slow the spread of the virus, protect the health care system, and help protect vulnerable older adults. Further, older adults should maintain adequate supplies of nonperishable foods and at least a 30-day supply of necessary medications, take precautions to keep space between themselves and others, stay away from those who are sick, avoid crowds as much as possible, avoid cruise travel and nonessential air travel, and stay home as much as possible to further reduce the risk of being exposed." 2028

Used soap from Hilton Hotels is getting a second life.The company announced Monday that it will collect used bars of soap from guest rooms across its hotels and recycle them into 1 million new bars of soap by October 15, which is Global Handwashing Day.The project is in conjunction with Clean the World, a social organization that distributes soap to communities in need. Hilton said it will collect soap from its various hotels, including Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton, Homewood Suites and Home2 Suites. Two Department of Energy officials referred on Wednesday to natural gas produced in the US as "freedom gas" and "molecules of U.S. freedom" in a press release announcing the expansion of a natural gas facility in Texas.The department announced the expansion of the Freeport LNG Terminal, a facility on Quintana Island, that produces liquified natural gas for export. The expansion of the facility will support an estimated 3,000 new jobs in the area, from construction to engineering, according to the department's release."Increasing export capacity from the Freeport LNG project is critical to spreading freedom gas throughout the world by giving America's allies a diverse and affordable source of clean energy," Under Secretary of Energy Mark Menezes said.Department officials announced the expansion at the Tenth Clean Energy Ministerial conference in Vancouver, Canada."I am pleased that the Department of Energy is doing what it can to promote an efficient regulatory system that allows for molecules of U.S. freedom to be exported to the world," Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy Steven Winberg, who signed the export order, said in the release.The export order from will allow Freeport LNG to export up to 0.72 billion cubic feet per day of liquified natural gas from a fourth liquefaction train at the LNG Terminal. When asked about law enforcement’s response to the ongoing protests, the director of the National Police Foundation, Dr. Frank Straub, said the rhetoric must be toned down. Straub pointed to the Charlotte Police Department, which worked with activists and now its officers stand in a line without riot gear. “And their whole idea is community engagement and community dialogue,” said Straub. “And so, we haven't seen in Charlotte the same level of disruption and violence that we've seen in some cities.”Straub calls Charlotte's response a model for other cities.
