They had been living in Oklahoma but both decided to hitchhike to California in October. RELATED: Former pro skateboarder convicted of rape and murder granted paroleThe woman, whose name was not released, said they stayed in Los Angeles for a week before coming down to San Diego where they were staying in a tent at a campground. She told the judge Roberts forcibly raped her one morning, holding her hands above her head.“I was telling him it was wrong, saying it was rape,” she said. After, she said Roberts left to go to work and she called a Lyft car which drove her all the way to Arizona where she called police and reported the alleged rape. The second victim said she met Roberts while walking near the beach in Pacific Beach in November of 2018.“He seemed like a very nice person,” she said through an interpreter.RELATED: Police searching for additional victims in sex assault caseThe woman said she is from Brazil but had been living in Washington, DC working as an au pair for a family. She traveled with them to San Diego for vacation and bumped into Roberts on her day off.She said he began making small talk and told her his roommate had a Brazilian girlfriend. He convinced her to walk with him towards his apartment to meet her.But she said before they made it there, he directed her to an area on the side of a home and pulled out a knife. She told the court that Roberts put his hand down her pants and inserted his finger into her anus while holding a knife to her throat.“I thought of my family. I thought of my dreams, how much I wanted to come here,” she said. “I could have never imagined this would happen to me.”A third woman also testified, saying Roberts raped her in her home at knife-point after she refused his advances.Roberts is being held on ,000,000 bail. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Point Loma woman said a man took photos of her chest as she was walking into the Ralphs grocery store on Rosecrans Boulevard on Tuesday morning. It was around 9 a.m. when Julie Buerckley noticed a man standing by the entrance and as she got closer she says he began snapping photos on his phone.  "He was taking pictures of me but it wasn't of my whole body, it was just of my chest," said Buerckley.Buerckley told 10News she ran inside to tell someone, but by the time employees came out the man was long gone. She said there's no telling how long he'd been there or who else he'd taken pictures of. "I'm worried about kids getting pictures taken when their parents aren't paying attention and stuff," Buerckley said. "That's what I'm worried about."She described the man as being tall, and wearing a red shirt, blue jeans and white shoes.  906

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A life-changing medical diagnosis forced a San Diego sailor to leave the military and start over. While devastating, he's now pursuing another career with help from his new best friend. "When I left the ship and went to MCRD I started getting really sick and thought it was the flu," said Hugo Reynoso.Instead, Reynoso was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and was medically retired from the Navy. "It's kind of scary having a steady paycheck and then going to have to look for something else," said Reynoso. On several occasions, dangerously high blood sugar levels sent Reynoso to the hospital. A friend suggested he get a diabetic alert dog. "He has enough personality for the both of us! He's a special character," said Reynoso, referring to his service dog Sky.Sky can detect when Reynoso's blood sugar levels are too high or low, alerting him by tugging his shirt or howling. In one instance, Sky detected extremely low levels when Reynoso was sleeping, alerting him to get up. Sky was by Reynoso's side as he pursued a new career in the automotive field. Reynoso was commuting two hours to Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Rancho Cucamonga for a fast-track program. "I was commuting 167 miles, one way, I would have to wake up around 2:30 a.m., start my drive at 3," said Reynoso.Reynoso did this five times a week, running on just a few hours of sleep. Sky was there to ensure his blood sugar levels were steady. "Everyone told me when we were getting ready to graduate that they were going to miss me, but mostly they were going to miss him because he was their support too."While Reynoso's diagnosis took away his old dreams, he now has a partner to help achieve new ones. 1711

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Halloween carnival at the Rancho Bernardo Community Park could be saved with a controversial decision. The park is short-staffed and in desperate need of volunteers. The City of San Diego allows people to volunteer one time per year without needing the usual criminal records check. Some parents are concerned about who would be volunteering near their children. The City sent 10News an email Friday indicating only volunteers who passed a background check would directly supervise or interact with children.Any volunteer does not go through a background check will be in support roles such as setting up tables and directing traffic. 669
