BEIJING, Sep. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said Thursday it would urge industrial enterprises to produce high-quality products as part of the effort to enhance the image of "made in China."The Ministry would also draw up a blacklist displaying the names of those firms breaching quality-related regulations, said Li Yizhong, Minister of the MIIT.The MIIT would reward those companies that have good records for producing quality products with increased policy and funding support, and punish those with poor quality-control records, said Li at a forum held in Beijing which focused on how to improve the quality and reputation of Chinese industrial products.The MIIT would also move forward on a campaign to allow enterprises to make promises on producing quality products, and work together with quality supervision authorities to incorporate the quality-based credit system of enterprises into the whole social credit system, Li said.During the forum, 156 Chinese firms signed a written proposal "promising to make quality products for the world," and called upon their peers in China to raise the quality of industrial products.

BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's water resources imbalances between the north and south may worsen due to global climate changes and economic activities, said Vice Minister of Water Resources Hu Siyi.Typically, China's north is dry while its south has abundant water supplies.China will face unprecedented challenges in saving water in the next five-year plan from 2011 to 2015, said Hu at a national water-saving meeting in Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan Province, late September.Compared with the 1956-1979 period, rainfall in the Yellow River, Huaihe River, Haihe River and Liaohe River vallies in the 1980-2000 period had dropped six percent on average and river and lake water resources decreased 17 percent in these areas, according to figures from the Ministry of Water Resources.China's accelerated urbanization has pushed up demand for water.If the population in Beijing keeps on climbing, the water brought by the near completed South-to-North Water Diversion Project would not be enough, Hu said.China's water-saving targets during the 12th five-year plan from 2011 to 2015 include a 30-percent cut in water use for every 10,000 yuan (1,490 U.S. dollars) of gross industrial output, Hu said.

TOKYO, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara said Tuesday that he will try hard to rebuild a "strategic, mutually beneficial relationship" with China.During a luncheon meeting at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan, Maehara said he will strive to mend ties with China as foreign minister.He also welcomed the agreement between Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in Belgium Monday to resume talks between high-level officials of the two countries.Earlier in the day Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshito Sengoku expressed his hope for the improvement of Japan's relations with China."Promoting a strategic, mutually beneficial relationship and improving ties between Japan and China will be positive not only for the two countries but also for other Asian countries or countries around the world, especially for their economies," said Sengoku at a regular press conference in Tokyo.China-Japan relations have been soured recently after the Japanese Coast Guard illegally seized a Chinese fishing boat and detained the crew on Sept. 8 in waters off the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea.Japanese authorities insisted on performing a so-called domestic judicial procedure against the crew despite strong protests from the Chinese government and public. BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan Monday pledged to work with Cuba to lift the friendly bilateral relationship to a new level.Wang made the remarks while meeting with Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba.Cabrisas is in China to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations.Cuba was the first Latin American nation to forge diplomatic relations with China, in 1960.Wang spoke highly of the development of China-Cuba ties over the past half a century, noting that the two countries have always supported each other and enjoyed frequent high level visits.China will work with Cuba to expand win-win cooperation and strengthen economic and trade links with a view to further advancing bilateral ties, Wang said.Wang said China will continue to help Cuba within its capacity.Cabrisas thanked China for offering economic and technological assistance to his country.He said Cuba will make concerted efforts with China to promote pragmatic cooperation in various sectors while pushing forward the existing sound bilateral relationship.
