The big push is coming from Amazon, which is holding its annual Prime Day sales event Tuesday and Wednesday. It's the first time Prime Day has been held in the fall after Amazon postponed it from July due to pandemic. Walmart, Best Buy, and Target are also offering online deals on TVs, toys, and other items over the same two days. There's a good reason for the early start. Nearly two dozen schools in metro Detroit were closed on Thursday due to threats. Detroit Police Chief James Craig said since the Florida school shooting on Feb. 14, DPD received a total of 40 threats, consisting of two bombing threats, 34 shooting threats, and two bombing and shooting threats.At one of the targeted schools, John R. King Academy, class was already in session when the bomb squad arrived at the school on the report of a suspicious package. The kids were dismissed for the day after it was found to be safe.Anyone arrested could potentially face charges of terrorism and making threats online. If convicted, those charges carry a 20-year penalty.Craig said in the last 24 hours, DPD has received 23 threats. Three juveniles and one adult have already been arrested for numerous threats. U.S. District Judge Alison J. Nathan rejected the proposed bail for Ghislaine Maxwell on Monday. According to The Associated Press, Maxwell and her husband, who has never been publically identified, offered their entire wealth - .5 million - plus millions more of friends and family's assets to secure her bail.But she did not immediately release an opinion explaining her reasoning. Maxwell was arrested in early July. So when she was bullied this past school year, she turned that experience into something positive.“Two girls were bullying me, and I just decided I should make a book about bullying," said White.In March, she wrote a book called "A Slimetastic Day." It was recently published and is available on Amazon.The book is about "encouragement." When two boys call girls dumb, the girls initially become discouraged, but then the girls challenge the boys to slime making competition. The girls use their creativity and knowledge to prevail. White hopes her book inspires other children.“The book was about bullying, so if someone in your school or on the street is bullying you, you shouldn’t really care about it because you have your family, cousins, and friends that care about you," White said.White's mother Kina knew the book would be a bestseller with family and friends but said she didn't expect all the praise they've received from strangers.
