Tiger Woods is back in action and he might not even be the main event. His partner in the PNC Championship this week is his 11-year-old son Charlie. They are among the 20 teams in the field for a 36-hole scramble that will be on NBC. Is that too young for the bright lights of television? Remember, Woods was 2 when he made his first television appearance on "The Mike Douglas Show." Woods says it's all about enjoying the time together. He says his father didn't push him to play golf, and he won't push his son, either.According to Golf Digest, Tiger and Charlie will compete alongside Justin Thomas and his dad, Mike, at 11:48 a.m. local time Saturday in a two-day scramble event. The third father-son duo joining the group is Tiger's caddie Joe LaCava and his son, Joe LaCava Jr., Golf Digest reported. 814

TOLEDO, Ohio — On Monday, federal authorities announced the arrests of a man and a woman in connection to plotting two separate attacks in Ohio in concert with undercover agents. In a press conference, federal authorities said a man from Holland, Ohio was arrested after planning an attack on a Toledo-area synagogue. In a separate case, agents also arrested a Toledo woman after she purchased black powder and screws that authorities believe were going to be used to make a bomb as part of a terrorist attack.Arrest 1: Joseph DamonJoseph Damon, 21, was arrested Friday and charged with one count of attempting to provide support for ISIS, according to the Department of Justice.Earlier this year, Damon was in communication with undercover agents after he received attention from federal agents for posting photographs of knives and firearms on his social media accounts, as well as a photograph distributed by the media wing of ISIS.In conversations with undercover agents, Damon said he would be willing to participate in violent attacks, say federal officials. On Oct. 30., following the mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Damon allegedly told an agent, "I admire what the guy did with the shooting actually. I can see myself carrying out this type of operation inshallah. They wouldn't even expect [an attack] in my area."In December, Damon continued to talk with authorities about carrying out attacks on synagogues.Damon met with an undercover agent on Dec. 6, writing down the name and address of the synagogue where the attack was to occur. Later that day, the agent told Damon he purchased rifles for the attack. The two met on Dec. 7 at a location where Damon took a black duffel bag carrying two rifles. He was then arrested, according to federal authorities.Arrest 2: Elizabeth LecronElizabeth Lecron, 23, was charged with one count of transportation of explosive material for the purpose of harming others and property.Lecron received the attention of federal agents earlier this year after she frequently posted photographs and comments on social media glorifying mass murderers, including the Columbine shooters and convicted church killer Dylann Roof. After her social media account was deleted, Lecron created a new one under the profile  "CharlestonChurchMiracle," where she would post photos and comments about mass casualty attacks. In August, undercover FBI agents talked with Lecron, who told them she and an associate created a plan to commit an "upscale mass murder" at a Toledo bar.In September, Lecron discussed with undercover agents a pipeline bombing and mentioned a good place to carry out an attack was where she worked because she believed they were polluting the river behind the plant.By December, she talked with an agent and agreed to buy black powder needed to make a bomb, according to information published by feds in a news release.Federal authorities said Lecron met with a source at a retail sporting good stores on Dec. 8, where she entered the store by herself and bought two pounds of Hodgson Triple Seven Muzzleloading Propellant. She went to a larger retailer in the Toledo area where she purchased 655 screws of various sizes, some as large as 3 inches, according to federal authorities. 3334

There’s been talk of a “blue wave” heading into the midterm elections, with more Democrats energized and ready to vote. But just two weeks before the midterms, a new poll suggests the wave could be crashing. The lead in the election polls Democrats once had has fallen. In many of the battleground House or Representatives races, candidates from both parties are running almost even, according to a Washington Post poll.Another report finds Republicans are outpacing Democrats in early voting in key states, many of which are seeing record turnout.President Donald Trump outlined what he feels has sparked the turnaround.“This will be the election of the caravan, Kavanaugh, law and order, tax cuts and common sense,” Trump says.Even Democrats are downplaying the chances of a “blue wave.”“If the election were held today, the Democrats would handily win the House,” Nancy Pelosi, Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, says. “I can only speak in the present tense because you never know in a couple of weeks.”The president just announced he'll hold at least another ten rallies before the midterms, meaning he will have spoken at more than 30 rallies in the final five weeks of the campaign.President Barack Obama is also on the road, campaigning for Democrats.“The consequences of anybody here not turning out and doing everything you can to get your friends neighbor's family to turn out, the consequences of you staying home would be profoundly dangerous to this country and to our democracy,” Obama said during a recent rally. In these final couple weeks, both parties are having rallies across the country to motivate their base and to see which party can convince more of their voters to turnout. 1733

Their youthful brains were developing normally, with no signs of developmental, psychological or neurological problems. None had ever had a concussion. But by the end of a single football season, 24 children between the ages of 9 and 18 who had more frequent impacts to the head showed signs of damage to brain development, new research says."Repetitive head impact exposure may have a cumulative effect in the rapidly developing brains of youth and high school football players," said study co-author Gowtham Krishnan Murugesan, a radiology research assistant at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, adding that the results mirror other recent findings. The study outfitted 60 youth and high school football players who had no history of head trauma or developmental issues with a head impact telemetry system that measures the magnitude, location and direction of impacts to the head. The researchers were not looking at whether the impact resulted in a concussion, only that impact occurred. The children were sorted into two categories: high cumulative head impact players (24) and low cumulative head impact players (36).Before beginning to play, each child had a resting state functional scan, known as an fMRI; the scans were repeated at the end of football season. The researchers were trying to see how exposure to repetitive hits affects the normal "pruning" process in the brain that occurs during adolescence."Pruning is an essential part of brain development," Murugesan said, comparing the process to how a tree needs to have dead or unneeded branches cut to keep it healthy and allow it to grow."Disruption in normal pruning has been shown to be related to weaker connections between different parts of the brain," he said. After comparing the functional MRI results to the player's level of impact, the researchers found that youth in the high-impact group had damage to their brains' pruning process after one season."Our study has found a significant decrease in gray matter pruning in the frontal default mode network, which is involved in higher cognitive functions, such as the planning and controlling of social behaviors, " Murugesan said.Although the "teenage years are a critical time for brain development, brain remodeling or synaptic pruning, this was a short-term study and did not follow the players longitudinally over several years. We don't really know the full application," said Dr. Julian Bailes, director of neurosurgery and co-director of the NorthShore University HealthSystem Neurological Institute, who was not involved in the research.Weill Cornell neurologist Dr. Richard Isaacson, who was also not involved in the study, called the research "early" and said the results don't necessarily "translate to a clinical or cognitive outcome." More research is needed to see whether the decline in brain pruning permanently affected the child's cognitive function or whether the brain's natural plasticity allowed it to repair itself."I would call this a pilot study," Isaacson said. "The call to action would be that we need more robust longitudinal studies with a pre- and a post-assessment of more than brain imaging. The study should also measure cognitive and neurological function and look for changes."As we learn more about the issue, Isaacson said, parents should do everything they can to limit contact in sports, "especially in practice before games, where studies show the majority of contact occurs." 3464
