BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- China and Vietnam held a reception in Beijing on Friday to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties.     Chen Haosu, president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, said China and Vietnam were friendly neighbors, which had frequent high-level visits, broad trade and economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges.     Chen said the establishment of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (FTA) on Jan. 1, 2010 will further boost the mutually-beneficial cooperation between China and Vietnam. BEIJING, March 1 (Xinhua) -- A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Monday called on film industry workers to accelerate its development with innovation and new and high technologies.Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the call in an instruction for a video conference on the film industry.Li said the film sector had been thriving and the competitiveness of homegrown films had been enhanced in recent years.He called for high quality films that sold in cinemas to increase the influence of Chinese culture.State Councilor Liu Yandong, who chaired Monday's meeting, stressed non-public film companies should be supported and governments at all levels should facilitate the development of the industry.

BEIJING, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Ma Kai urged here Friday that public complaints and petitions should be handled properly to promote social stability and harmony.Ma Kai, also secretary-general of the State Council, or cabinet, made the remarks at a national conference attended by heads of relevant government departments dealing with such petitions.Ma stressed that the government should make more efforts to prevent the occurrence of disputes and complaints right from the start.He also called for better investigation and sound settlement of petition cases.He urged setting up a risk assessment system in the decision making procedure in major social issues.Better implementing existing policies and the accountability system for relevant official departments are also needed, Ma said.

SHIJIAZHUANG, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese official Zhou Yongkang has called on local authorities of northern Hebei Province to do a good job in the two major issues of development and stability, to bring more benefits to the people.Zhou, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks during a visit to Hebei from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 to investigate the study and implementation of the Scientific Outlook on Development."Industrial development and city reconstruction should be based on scientific planning, using wasteland rather than farmland," said Zhou, urging local authorities to pay more attention to people's livelihood and protection of environment and historical and cultural heritage.Zhou praised the province for its economic development and the local government's work in administration and stability maintenance.He visited workers who were building a highway that was supposed to bring benefit and convenience to more than 80,000 local people in 109 villages.At the construction site, Zhou urged work safety and the project quality.Zhou also visited a glass factory, a heavy machinery company and a pharmaceutical group to inspect local companies' progress on technical researches and independent innovation.He urged the province to promote economic restructuring and coordinated development between urban and rural areas to realize better and faster development.

BEIJING, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- China's auto sales would not rise as steeply as that in 2009, but would continue to see double-digit growth boosted by government stimulus measures, an official with the Ministry of Commerce said on Friday.Chang Xiaocun, who headed the market construction department of the ministry said at a news conference that research had shown that after a nation's per capital GDP surpasses 3,000 U.S. dollars, it would see brisk auto sales as more families could afford to buy cars.China met that criteria in 2008, he said.
