BAKERSFIELD, California — Fire crews around California are gradually getting the upper hand on wildfires that are ravaging the state.On Monday morning, CalFire updated the progress of multiple fires from around California.The Camp Fire in Butte County is now covering 151,000 and is 66 percent contained. As the US federal government was set to run out of funding at the end of Friday, the House of Representatives and Senate both passed H.J.Res. 107 on Friday, which funds the government through Sunday night. Without approval, the federal government would have entered a shutdown on Saturday.The measure passed through the House by a 320-60 margin. Less than an hour later, the Senate approved the bill by a voice vote. President Donald Trump then signed the bill late Friday night, officially keeping the government open this weekend.Without funding, essential federal government employees would work without pay. Other government employees would be told to stay home.The discussion on funding the government comes as House and Senate leaders are still working on a compromise on a stimulus package. Both sides have stated that legislators won’t leave Washington without approval of a pandemic relief package. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said congressional leaders will continue discussing a stimulus package over the weekend, but no votes will be called before Sunday afternoon. ATLANTA (AP) — Two more Atlanta police officers have been fired over an incident in which two college students were pulled from a car during a protest against police brutality.Atlanta police confirmed Wednesday that Sgt. Lonnie Hood and Officer Armon Jones were fired as a result of their involvement in the May 30 incident.Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and police Chief Erika Shields previously announced the firing of two other officers who were involved in the incident.Hood and Jones were among the officers caught on camera shouting at a young couple in a car in downtown traffic during the Black Lives Matter protests. The cops then proceeded to fire Tasers at the pair and dragged them from the vehicle.Throughout the incident, the man and woman can be heard screaming and asking what they did wrong.The four officers who have been fired and two other cops are facing criminal charges in connection with the altercation.Hood is charged with aggravated assault against both Young and Pilgrim for using a Taser against both of them, according to an arrest warrant obtained by The Associated Press. He is also charged with simple battery for violently pulling Pilgrim from the car and throwing her down on to the street, the warrant says.Jones is charged with aggravated battery for hurting Young’s left arm when he dragged him from the car and slammed him onto the street, the warrant says. As parents are deciding whether to purchase Halloween costumes for their children amid the coronavirus pandemic, one Ohio man is ready to safely welcome trick or treaters to his home.Andrew Beattie has installed a 6-foot chute for candy so he can remain distanced from trick or treaters on Beggars’ Night.Beattie says that the chute will be “touch-free” as children will have the treats drop into their candy bucket without having to come in contact with Beattie. For added safety, Beattie says that he will wear a mask and continually change gloves in order to keep children safe.“I want our youngins to be able to have some sense of normalcy and maybe a little bit of exercise in all this madness, and I've put a LOT of thought into how to do so safely, and I appreciate your concern,” Beattie said in a viral Facebook post published earlier this week.Beattie said the chute is a six-foot long tube of cardboard that is four inches in diameter. He said he was able to install the chute on his porch in 20 minutes.“If this candy chute makes things easier or safer, AND gives those with mobility challenges more of a chance to participate, then what's the harm?
