Kamala Harris was also among the politicians that spent big on Facebook, buying nearly 17,000 ads for more than million. Harris is rumored to be eying a run for President in 2020.JB Pritzker, a Chicago businessman who is running for governor of Illinois as a Democrat, spent nearly million on Facebook. FiveThirtyEight gives him an 11 in 12 chance of being elected governor. ExxonMobil, the oil and gas giant, spent the most on political Facebook ads among corporations in 2018, pouring nearly million into 1,700 ads. A search through Facebook's archives shows most of the company's most recent ads oppose Colorado Proposition 112 — a proposition that, if passed, would require oil and gas developments to be at least 2,500 feet from occupied buildings, parks, creeks, and other "vulnerable areas." Oil companies have argued the restrictions would make fracking and oil extraction in Colorado too difficult and expensive.Finally, despite calls for President Donald Trump's impeachment from some Democrats in the face of the Mueller investigation, Congressional leadership on the left has largely chosen not to campaign on the promise of impeachment. Hurricane Hunters have been flying in and out of Hurricane Delta continuously for days, getting a close-up look as the hurricane has re- intensified.Delta regained some of its previous fury. The hurricane, which was once a Category 4 before striking Mexico, dropped to a Category 1 on Wednesday. As the storm is set to strike the Louisiana coast on Friday, Delta has re-intensified into a Category 3 hurricane with top winds of 115 mph.As of Thursday evening, the hunters found that Delta had a 30-mile wide eye. Getting such detailed data from inside the hurricane can give forecasters a sense of the impact a hurricane will produce.There are two Air Force Reserve groups that fly into hurricanes to send back data to the National Hurricane Center.In total, the Air Force Reserve utilizes 20 WC-130J aircraft that are equipped with palletized meteorological data-gathering instruments.According to the Hurricane Hunters, “The navigator keeps track of the aircraft's position and movement and monitors radar to avoid tornadic activity. The flight meteorologist acts as flight director and observes and records meteorological data at flight level using a computer that encodes weather data every 30 seconds. The weather reconnaissance loadmaster collects and records vertical meteorological data using a parachute-borne sensor known as a dropsonde. Hurricane Maria was upgraded to a Category 5 hurricane on Monday, with top sustained winds of 160 MPH. As the hurricane continues to churn in the Atlantic Ocean, it is expected to strike Puerto Rico on Wednesday. The hurricane could prove to be a disastrous blow to more than 3 million Americans in Puerto Rico. Because of the threat posed to the US territory, Puerto Rico was placed under a hurricane warning by the National Hurricane Center.Earlier on Monday, forecasters predicted Maria's rapid intensification. "Significant strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Maria is expected to become a dangerous major hurricane before it moves through the Leeward Islands," according to the National Hurricane Center's latest update.  Maria has prompted a hurricane warning for Martinique, Guadeloupe, Dominica, St. Kitts, Nevis and Montserrat. As of early Monday evening, the storm was passing over Dominica. Torrential rainfall could cause deadly flash flooding and mudslides on islands that it crosses. Maria could dump 6 to 12 inches of rain across the Leeward Islands -- including Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands -- through Wednesday night."We want to alert the people of Puerto Rico that this is not an event like we've ever seen before," Gov. Ricardo Rosselló told reporters Monday.And for the first time in 85 years, Puerto Rico is expected to suffer a direct landfall from a Category 4 or 5 hurricane.
