BOULDER, Colo. – A Boulder, Colorado, family says their son was stuck with a hypodermic needle while playing near a creek by the Park East Park. Now, the family is warning parents to have a talk with their children.Wade Green says his four-year-old son was on a play date with another kid when he found a needle. Green’s son picked up the needle and started playing with it. The nanny who was watching him asked the four-year-old what it was and he said it was a pH meter. It wasn’t until Green’s son made it home and showed the needle to his wife that someone realized what it was. The family lives near their pediatrician and immediately took their son to see him.“Examining him a little further, (the doctor) noticed two needle marks in his hand,” Green said. “When it happens to your own child, it’s just a heart wrenching.”So far, the four-year-old has taken two tests to see whether he has contracted a transmittable disease. He will have to undergo two more tests before being given the all-clear by doctors. This is not the only time people in the community have found needles laying around.“Two days before, a neighbor had told my wife that they had found a needle at the park east playground and they weren’t going to go there anymore because they didn’t feel like it was a safe place to take their kids,” Green said. BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department is on the scene of a shooting at the Valley Plaza Mall.Bakersfield Police confirmed that there are two victims of the shooting. Officials said the victims survived the initial shooting but their conditions are unknown.The two victims, ages 15 and 20, are not in life-threatening condition. Cisco says he's come to terms with what he did, but he worries about leaving his fiancé, Susie. "At first, I think neither one of us really realized that, you know, prison was going to happen,” Cisco says. Cisco hired a former federal prisoner turned prison coach to help him learn the ropes. “I started kind of looking online, you know, trying to find some sort of resource, something to help me understand what I was going through, what was going to happen,” Cisco says. He learned everything from how to act, how to avoid the TV room, because that's where fights can break out, and how to avoid getting too friendly with corrections officers so that other inmates don’t consider you a snitch. “My routine will be, like, lay low, stay under the radar,” Cisco says. California Governor Gavin Newsom did away Wednesday with a law that made it a crime to refuse to help a police officer.The law dates back nearly 150 years to California's Wild West days, when cowboys and outlaws roamed the state.The California Posse Comitatus Act of 1872 made it a misdemeanor for "an able-bodied person 18 years of age or older" to refuse a request for assistance from a police officer "in making an arrest, retaking into custody a person who has escaped from arrest or imprisonment, or preventing a breach of the peace or the commission of any criminal offense."It was widely used by authorities to legally form posses to hunt outlaws.State Senate Bill 192, which repeals the law, was first introduced on January 30, and it was sponsored by Senator Bob Hertzberg.
