SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The cycle of debt is something a lot of people are desperate to break. One of the biggest challenges is keeping up with credit cards, payments and beating the interest rates. Now, a San Diego startup is offering people an opportunity to make purchases on items they may need for themselves or their families, without interest rates, credit checks, or penalties. Marc Schneider is the CEO of Zebit, an online shopping site designed to help people facing financial hardships, get on track, make payments and get what they need. “We’re trying to provide sort of an Amazon for the under-served,” said Schneider. RELATED: San Diego Workforce teams up with UCSD Extension to offer student loan alternativeWhile growing up, Schneider and his family faced financial struggles of their own. “I’ve supported my mother since I was 15 years old. I grew up in a mobile home with a separated family. Ended up being homeless on food stamps,” said Schneider. Now, Schneider is a successful entrepreneur, with Zebit hitting million in 2017, and million last year. “Zebit was built to change how consumers get access to credit, to give them a fair deal and have zero gotchas,” Schneider said. In order to make purchases on Zebit, you first need to create a profile which includes providing your current employment status and driver’s license. The company then uses that information to verify your employment and determine how much of a Zebit line you will receive. The Zebit line is similar to store credit or having a credit card, but without the interest rates and penalties and with the chance to make payments for purchases over a 6 to 12 month period of time. RELATED: Realtors expect busy spring for buyers and sellersFor example, a MacBook Air on Zebit may cost around ,273. The may break down to 8 upfront with 12 payments of a month. A five-piece dining set may cost around up front, with monthly payments around dollars.“We’ve heard stories like you save my Christmas, my daughter wouldn’t have had a birthday present if it wasn’t for you, I couldn’t get married because I didn’t have a way to finance an engagement ring,” said Schneider. Some of the items on Zebit can cost 5 to 10 percent more than some items on Amazon, however the company still stresses that their interest-free model and competitive prices makes it a great shopping experience that was designed with people who may not a lot of money, or struggle with credit card payments and interest rates. “I wanna build a big company that makes an impact on a consumer base, a consumer base that tends to be invisible that tends to be neglected and a consumer base that tends to really rip people off over time,” said Schneider. Schneider hopes his company will help others break their own cycle of debt. 2808

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Teenage cancer survivors from Rady Chidlren's Hospital celebrated an "unforgettable" event. The annual Unforgettable Prom brought teens battling cancer out for a night of dancing and celebration — a night many of the teens miss at school while they continue to fight illness. Now in its 13th year, the dance has helped teens take a moment to celebrate that special night in every teenager's life. And everything is covered: From dresses and tuxedos to entertainment, food, and decor, thanks to volunteers and the Friends of Scott Foundation, a local non-profit that works to provide emotional and financial support for children with cancer and their families. This year's theme, Avengers "Age of Heroes," honors Ryan Wilcox, a former patient and Unforgettable Prom King, who lost hist battle with cancer. "Unforgettable Prom" was started by Carmen Delgadillo, founder of the Friends of Scott Foundation. Degadillo lost her teenage son, Scott, to Acute Lymphostic Leukemia. From that loss, Delgadillo started the foundation to help other families in need of support during their own battles with cancer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Climate Prediction Center released the final El Ni?o advisory for 2019, which means El Ni?o is over and now we are in a neutral phase with a 55 percent chance of continuing into winter. So what does that mean for the rest of summer and, most importantly, San Diego's winter? In order to put this in perspective, let’s review what this seasonal change means.San Diegans typically associate El Ni?o with a wet winter, or more rain and a better water supply. However, El Ni?o is more than that. The National Weather Service defines El Ni?o as a recurring climate pattern involving changes in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. Warm and cool changes are associated with the ENSO cycle. El Ni?o and La Ni?a are extreme phases of the ENSO cycle, but there is a third phase, less well known, called the ENSO neutral. That third phase is where San Diego is headed for the rest of the year and possibly through the winter months. El Ni?o and La Ni?a have a greater impact during the winter months. La Ni?a doesn’t do much for winters in California; it typically keeps San Diego dry and warm. The opposite happens during El Ni?o, which explains why it’s so much more popular. El Ni?o brings an active Jet and more frequent storms, reducing our drought and helping our water supply, with cold driven storms and snow for the Sierra Nevada mountains. The neutral phase is where San Diego is headed this fall with a 55 percent chance of it sticking around through the winter. The ENSO neutral phase is neither cold like La Ni?a nor warm like El Ni?o. The ENSO neutral phase is associated with sea surface temperatures closer to average, and stronger winds near the equator. It typically keeps the coldest air over the Northeast, warmer temperatures through the southern portion of the country, and wetter through the Midwest and Northeast. The ENSO Neutral typically keeps San Diego warm and dry. The extended forecast calls for above-normal temperatures for the remainder of the summer and near normal rain, which means dry since we are usually dry during those months. The winter outlook also brings near to slightly above normal temperatures. Rainfall will average near normal. San Diego's rainy season begins in November and lasts through March, sometimes lasting through April. Month Average Rainfall November 1.01” December 1.53” January 1.98” February 2.27” March 1.81” April 0.78” The average rainfall for the entire year in San Diego is 10.34 inches. During the months of November through April, we average more than 9 inches of rain. So, all we need is one storm every month during the winter time to keep us on track for the year. While the forecast favors an ENSO Neutral phase, there is a 30 percent chance the seasonal outlook could retrend toward El Ni?o. If we go back to El Ni?o, there is a better chance any given storm that moves into Southern California will be a rain maker, even if we only have a few storms. We will continue to monitor the changes; another year of surplus rain would be great for our region. 3074
