Members of the largest nurses union in the country held a memorial for the more the 164 nurses who have died of COVID-19 in Washington on Tuesday and called on Congress to pass legislation that they said would provide more nurses with personal protective equipment.Members of National Nurses United placed 164 pairs of white shoes on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol building Tuesday while the names of nurses who have died of the virus were read aloud."There are no words that can fully express the anger and the sadness I feel this morning," Stephanie Simms of the United Nurses Union said, according to ABC News. "Mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters. All gone."The union held a similar event at the White House in May, when they placed 88 pairs on the ground.The union also called on the Senate to pass the HEROES Act, a COVID-19 stimulus bill introduced by Democratic representatives that passed the House of Representatives in May. However, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) says the Senate will not consider the House bill.The HEROES Act contains a provision that would increase the production of personal protective equipment through the National Defense Act. Nurses have reported difficulty in getting such equipment — including N95 masks, gloves and protective gowns — in some parts of the country."How many of these frontline nurses would be here today if they had had the equipment they needed to do their jobs safely?" He hopes for more opportunities, like a job and education in the U.S.Alfonso Rosales saw the migrants as he came over the border, saying in Spanish, they were excited and happy, cheering that they've reached their goal.Several immigrants told 10 News in Mexico they were scared, afraid what the process would entail and of being turned away.One father, Pedro Ismael Varela, said he's worried about being separated from his young son.At the border agents stopped the caravan saying they were at capacity. Members of the group say there's about 20 people waiting at the door for their turn, and the rest of the group waiting in Mexico.The port of entry is a 24 hour operation, and will be open overnight to process people wanting to come through the border."A lot of them get detained, some of them not, that’s the next step, it’s case by case," Alor Calderon, Director of Employer Rights Center said. MEXICO CITY (AP) — A powerful earthquake centered near the Mexican resort town of Huatulco has killed at least two people, officials said Tuesday.The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake had a magnitude of 7.4 and was centered along the Pacific coast of Oaxaca state. It hit at 11:29 a.m. ET at a depth of 16 miles and the epicenter was about 7 miles south-southwest of Santa Maria Zapotitlan, USGS says.Mexico’s president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, said one person was killed and another injured in a building collapse in Huatulco.
