The park’s seasonal nighttime show, Electric Ocean, will continue through September 2, along with SeaWorld’s summer concert series. The live events are free with park admission. Paradise Point Resort & Spa on Vacation Isle Park in Mission Bay is rebranding into a Margaritaville Island Beach Resort, with an anticipated opening of 2020-21.The existing property will be renovated and converted for an estimated million. It will feature 462 casita-style single-story guest rooms, waterfront views with a mile of beachfront, Margaritaville food and beverage concepts, new recreational activities and family-friendly amenities.Margaritaville is a global lifestyle brand inspired by the lyrics and lifestyle of singer, songwriter and best-selling author Jimmy Buffett, whose songs evoke a passion for tropical escape and relaxation.Davidson Hotels & Resorts will operate the property as Paradise Point Resort & Spa until the hotel is reflagged, and will continue to manage the property following the completion of the renovation and rebranding.Paradise Point's general manager, Michael Stephens tells 10News, "Some of the first things were investing in is restaurants." Following last years 22 million dollar guest room renovation, the new project will focus on updating the rest of the property and adding new restaurants. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego State University is going to lose its one and only Christian sorority house. Builders plan to tear it down and put up more housing for students.Alpha Delta Chi sorority sister Madison Zeber walked us through the halls of the sorority house near campus, where 15 women live. The walls are covered with old, handwritten messages of faith. On the outside of the house, there’s a new message. A notice was recently posted by the City of San Diego, of plans to close the only Christian sorority. A private party plans to replace it with 42 units of new housing, intended for students. A neighboring single-family home and fraternity house will also be lost. “It would definitely be heart-breaking,” says sorority sister Carissa Thompson. She was a transfer student and has been living in the house for a year. “Coming here, I definitely wanted to make sure that I had a good, Christian community and I definitely found that here.”The SDSU Research Foundation owns and leases the houses, and tells 10News that the development plans were announced last fall. The sisters won't have to vacate the sorority house until 2020, when their lease is up. “We're trying to fight for this and take it one step at a time,” says the sorority president Alexis Kojo.It’s just one of a series of housing concerns for SDSU students. By this fall, all current, non-local sophomore students must live on-campus. It's called the Sophomore Success Program. Some students say it’s a costly requirement for those of little means, but the school's website reads, “Data show that students who live on campus are better prepared academically, enjoy an increased sense of community and campus connectedness, and graduate at faster rates than those who do not.”Alpha Delta Chi’s lot will not be used for Sophomore Success Program, but that doesn't change much for these sisters. No matter what, they'll have to start packing. “Our way of connecting to the school would be gone. Our sense of identity as Christians on this campus [and] SDSU students would be kind of taken away,” adds Kojo.The sorority says there are public meetings to discuss the redevelopment plans. The sisters say the meetings will take place April 3 and April 10 at the nearby Faith Presbyterian Church. 2278

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Starting in September, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar will become a "living lab" for brand new technology, helping shape how tech can benefit our military and cities in the future.The base is one of 12 Naval X "Tech Bridges" in the nation, partnering the Marine Corps, Navy, academia, and private businesses to test and develop leading-edge tech.To prepare the base, Verizon installed a brand new 5G network in July, making the base the first in the nation with this capability.Lt. Col. Brandon Newell, Director of Naval X Southern California Tech Bridge, said Miramar was ideal because of its location, size, and layout."We’ve been building toward this for three years," Lt. Col. Newell said.One of the four projects that will be happening this fall is creating a "digital fortress." Lt. Col. Newell said that means self-learning technology will replace traditional fences and enhance gate security.He painted a picture of what it would look like with extra tech at MCAS Miramar's gate. "[A Marine] is scrutinizing your ID and your face the moment they have with you before they allow you on. While you're cued up in the line waiting, the power of computer vision and machine learning could help us assist in knowing who’s new to the base, who hasn’t come with that vehicle before," Lt. Col. Newell said.Perimeter surveillance will get a boost from Orange County-based defense tech startup, Anduril.The company created Sentry Towers, a compact, self-powered, learning surveillance tool already set up at MCAS Yuma.They plan to set up three towers at MCAS Miramar along the perimeter in the next two to three weeks. The towers will monitor the landscape through video and sensors that map the area."It learns the tipping factors of what is something of interest and what is something not of interest in locations where we don’t have a lot of visibility sometimes," Lt. Col. Newell said.This tech gives Marines physical space and therefore protection during the pandemic, "allows Marines and law enforcement officials to not be in the operations center and be out doing other mission-essential requirements," Declan Lynch, head of strategy and growth, Force Protection, at Anduril said.Lynch said the tech tested at Miramar will translate to protect our service members on the battlefield."I'm really excited about taking the same technology and working with war-fighters in combat and contested environments ... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego pro-Dreamer groups called Monday for President Trump to support the Dreamers’ rights to remain in the U.S.San Diego Border Dreamers said Congress failed in providing a path to citizenship and permanent protection from deportation.The group raised funds to allow members of its board of directors to travel to Washington, D.C. and be part of the discussion.Also Monday, MEChA de SDSU and supporters held a protest at Hepner Hall to encourage the university to become a sanctuary campus for immigrants. 537
