The 6-year copyright lawsuit against English rock band Led Zeppelin over their epic ballad "Stairway to Heaven" came to an unelectrified end Monday after the Supreme Court decided not to hear the case. With the justices not listening to the case, they awarded the band a victory by default.Instead, the court opted to uphold the March ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco that found the rock band did not steal the song from the band Spirit. In 2014, the estate of late Spirit guitarist Randy Wolfe filed the suit, saying Led Zeppelin stole the opening riff off Spirit's 1968 track "Taurus," according to the New York Times. In June 2016, a jury in Los Angeles decided that Led Zeppelin did not steal Spirit's riff, CBS News reported.According to the Associated Press, a three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled in Sept. 2018 that the jurors were given wrong instructions by the judge, so a new trial was ordered. In March, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals restored a jury verdict finding the band did not steal from Spirit, Variety reported. 1100

Surveillance footage obtained from a Las Vegas phone store shows video shows an iPhone exploding on a desk while an employee sat just a couple feet away. The employee quickly jumped up to get help as the phone burned itself out on the desk in less than 20 seconds. The phone screen was being replaced after it cracked due to heat damage as the battery expanded. The store is not being identified.Paul Tartaglio owns Gadget Repair. While it wasn't his shop, he says he has seen badly damaged batteries due to heat in the Las Vegas desert. He has seen a phone explode before but "It takes a lot for it to explode."The biggest issue he sees the temperatures rise into the triple digits in Las Vegas are the cracked screens from warped batteries. "Over time, the batteries heat up and bloat," Tartaglio said. "The problem is when it bloats up just a little bit, it can cause your screen to crack a lot easier."While he says it's extremely difficult to predict when a battery could explode, Tartaglio said the key is to keep phones out of direct sunlight during the summer. Not only can it lead to explosions in extreme cases, but it can also shorten the life of the battery —especially after the phone issues a temperature warning a few times.Smart phone users should also avoid overcharging devices, which can generate extra heat in the battery.Tartaglio also recommends people use replacement batteries directly from the phone's manufacturer, saying they are often more reliable than aftermarket batteries and typically aren't any more expensive. 1597

The series says it was “outraged” and said there is no place for racism in NASCAR. 569
Thanksgiving may not have all the fixings this year. Most Americans are planning a scaled back event. But 75% of people told Butterball they plan to have a turkey the same size this year, as last year.“If you're looking for a smaller turkey, I would recommend shopping early to get what you want,” said Andrea Balitewicz, Butterball Turkey Talk-Line Supervisor. While many people are looking for some normalcy this Thanksgiving, 30% are hosting immediate family only.Butterball says there will also be more first-time hosts.“But there's also other products available like our turkey breast roasts, which are perfect for just a couple of people, or you can find the bone in turkey breast and that's a really great product too, and it's some for about six to seven people. So, it's a great product for smaller celebrations.”Butterball is planning the same offerings as usual. About half its turkeys will be in the 10-16 pound range. The other half in the 16-24 pound range.Walmart says it will have 30% more turkey breasts for those that don't want to cook a whole bird, even though they will have plenty of those.Kroger bought more turkeys than usual. It's predicting an increase in demand for alternatives.Turkey sales have been falling in general, according to Nielsen data. Last November they were down 3.5% from the year before. Sales for beef and plant-based meat were up. 1382
