Claire's Stores Inc. has stopped selling three cosmetic products due to the possibility of the presence of asbestos fibers.The company says out of caution it is also recalling these products as they may be in the homes of customers. This includes Claire’s Eye Shadows, Claire’s Compact Powder and Claire’s Contour Palette. "We initiated this voluntary recall after testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration indicated the possible presence of asbestos fibers in product samples from one lot of each product," says the recall from Claire's Stores. "Inhalation of asbestos over time has been linked to serious adverse health consequences. The products are no longer available in our stores, but may still be in the homes of consumers." Cynda Murrow has been working at Walgreens for four years.“I get to meet new people, and I like to say hi to all of my co-workers,” Murrow said.She’s a person just like anyone else, but we all have something that’s a part of our story. Murrow's story includes living with an intellectual and developmental disability.“Some people don’t understand me, so that’s why I use a device to help me," Murrow said. "But some of the people speak Spanish, so that’s hard for me to speak Spanish because I don’t know Spanish. I know a little bit of Spanish though.”Cynda says she loves her job. Just like any job, some days can be challenging. However, she always finds a way to make it work.“(I have a) device that I use to help me speak if I have trouble," Murrow said. "I do have this button right here that says ’I’m using a communication device to help me speak. Please be patient with me.’”Advocates who offer support for people with disabilities say employment is an important part of life. That’s why national organizations like The Arc work to break down those barriers.“Employment is more than just getting a paycheck. Employment develops independent, self-esteem, self-protection, and limits vulnerability in mistreatment, abuse and neglect,” Luke Wheeland with The Arc said.In the past 30 years, there’s been a lot of effort to get people with disabilities into the workforce. It all comes down to seeking out the right resources. Murrow’s mom says she’s been educating herself on what’s good for Murrow since the day she was born.“I found that information is power, so I just learned as much as I could,” Murrow'’s mom Wayla Murrow said.Another resource Murrow’s family uses, is the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.“Vocational Rehabilitation is the largest provider of job placement services for people with disabilities in the country,” Eric Clark with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation said.Clark says Vocational Rehabilitation programs exist in all 50 states and serves about a million people per year. Those who have a documented disability are able to partner with a rehabilitation counselor to develop an individual plan to find employment.“In that process they’ll talk about what kind of employment are they interested in, what type of employment have they done before, what skills did they develop from that employment," Clark said. "But also, even talking about general life activities. Do they volunteer? Do they do sports?”Clark says a good reference to use when applying for jobs is the 2526

Earlier this month, the US Air Force ended height restrictions for pilots in hopes of attracting a more diverse pool of candidates, which the Air Force hopes will result in more female applicants. The new rules went into effect on May 13 for applicants.Previously, pilots were required to stand 64 to 77 inches tall. The Air Force said that medical and operations communities will apply an anthropometric screening process to individual applicants for placement in an aircraft they can safely fly as they pursue a rated track. The Air Force says that its previous requirement eliminated about 44% of female applicants age 20 to 29. “Historically, most of our aircraft were engineered around the height of an average male, not females,” said Lt. Col. Jessica Ruttenber, Air Force mobility planner and programmer and team leader on the Women’s Initiative Team.Government data says that the average American adult woman stands 63.8 inches tall, while the average man in the US stands 69.3 inches. The Air Force had a waiver process that allowed applicants who didn’t meet height requirements the opportunity to be considered, but the Air Force said that the process could have scared off applicants. “While most height waivers were approved under the old system, feedback indicated the entire waiver process served as a barrier, which negatively impacted female rated accessions,” said Lt. Col. Christianne Opresko, branch chief on the Air Force’s Air Crew Task Force and an aerospace physiologist. “It’s hard to determine how many women did not previously apply due to their perception of not being fully qualified or having to pursue a waiver.” 1655
Emergency officials took an injured mainland Chinese man away from the Hong Kong Airport on Tuesday after angry protesters who accused him of being a Chinese undercover agent tied up his hands and tried to beat him up.The man was pictured with his hands bound with cable ties, lying in a fetal position on the ground surrounded by a crowd of protesters as demonstrations continued at the airport for a second day and turned tense late Tuesday. DENVER — Three unvaccinated children who are visiting Colorado from another state tested positive for measles after traveling to a country with an ongoing measles outbreak, according to a Tri-County Health Department news release on Monday.The children flew into Denver International Airport with their family Wednesday. DIA officials said people who were in concourse A, on the train to the terminal, the west baggage claim or at the west passenger pick up area on that day between 1:15 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. may have been exposed. However, DIA said there is no ongoing risk of exposure. The exposure risk in other areas of the city is unknown at this time. Health officials said they are working to identify people who may have been exposed to the highly contagious infectious viral disease.The three patients are currently being treated at Children’s Hospital in Aurora, according to the health department.More cases of measles have occurred in the US during 2019 than any year since 1992, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
