SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A transit security officer stabbed a man who tried to grab his service pistol at the Old Town Transit Center Friday, San Diego Police said. The encounter was reported at 1 p.m. at the station at 4009 Taylor St. Police said the armed officer was attacked by a man who “violently pulled” on the gun in the holster in an attempt to remove it. The officer kept his weapon and defended himself with his duty knife, stabbing the man in the torso, according to police. Despite his injury, the unidentified man ran away. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An 18-year-old San Diego student who has already cemented her place in climbing has now grabbed a historic Olympic accolade.Sunday, Brooke Raboutou, of Boulder, Colo., qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Games to become the first-ever American to qualify for Olympic climbing, according to the U.S. Olympic Committee. The University of San Diego sophomore finished ninth in the combined qualification round at the IFSC Climbing World Championships in Hachioji, Japan, according to Team USA. Her final rank will be based on the results from all three events.U.S. athletes will have two more chances to qualify for the 2020 team. She is also 2018's lead youth world champion, 2016 combined youth world champion, and 2017's combined youth Pan American champion. Raboutou skills come across as a genetic trait, as her parents were each multiple-time climbing world cup champions and her older brother is also an accomplished climber. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A stunning photo of a female surfer riding the waves was taken at sunset in Cardiff, and the photographer who took the image is hoping to find her.Los Angeles-based photographer Robin Kerr is inspired by nature. She has been taking nature and wildlife photos since she was a child.“My dad lent me his camera on our family vacation to Montana in 1989, ever since then I’ve had the bug,” said Kerr.Kerr said she had visited some amazing places to take photos, but her trip to San Diego in 2018 is one of her favorites.“I took a trip down to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park to see all of the wildlife there," said Kerr. “It had rained on and off all day. I was thinking it might be a really great sunset, something dramatic with the clouds.”Kerr made her way to Cardiff just before it got too dark to snap pictures of the beach. At that moment, she took a stunning photo of a female surfer gliding on the water, in front of a golden sunset.“You can tell she’s just experiencing so much joy in the photo, doing what she loves," Kerr told ABC 10News.Kerr said while taking photos of other objects on the beach, she missed meeting the surfer. She posted the picture, and another zoomed-in image of the woman on her social media accounts, hoping to find her. She had no luck. Nearly two years later, she is resuming her search.“I came across that picture again; I thought man it would be so great to actually find her," Kerr said.Kerr said she has not been able to retake a photo like this. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A well-known San Diego restaurant plans to close for good this July. Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant will close its Mission Valley restaurant on July 16, 2019, according to paperwork filed by the company. Although no reason was given for the closure, 79 employees are expected to lose their jobs. The layoff notice was filed by the company on June 5 and says, in part, that the company will “continue the employment of all employees through the sixtieth day after the date of this notice, and all employees will be paid your regular wages and benefits through that date.”The brewery and restaurant first opened in 1988 in Palo Alto before expanding in 1999. Gordon Biersch currently operates 35 restaurants in the U.S., though it’s unclear if any other locations plan to close. 808

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A water hydrant break Friday flooded a stretch of Midway District road and swallowed a traffic signal.The break was reported on Midway Drive between Sports Arena Boulevard and Kemper Street, according to San Diego police. The stretch of road was closed fdue to flooding.There was no estimated time of restoration.The flooding in the area was so severe, a traffic signal sunk about halfway into the ground.San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were able to shut the water off shortly before 5:30 p.m. 516
