LOS ANGELES (KGTV) - Surveillance video released by the Los Angeles Police Department shows a violent taco truck robbery that left a worker with injuries.Three men entered the truck as it was parked on West Manchester Ave. in South Los Angeles around 3 a.m. on July 14.Police said the men forced the workers to the ground and demanded cash.One worker was pistol-whipped during the hold-up. There is no word on his condition.The suspects were not able to gain access to the safe in the taco truck. They took the workers’ cell phones and cash before leaving, investigators said.Los Angeles Police said the men were last seen running from the location with the victims’ property. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - County public health officials said have ordered the continued closure of LA Apparel's manufacturing facilities in South Los Angeles, announcing that more than 300 workers have been confirmed with the coronavirus and four have died.The company's manufacturing complex on 59th Street was originally closed June 27 after inspectors found "flagrant" violations of infection- control protocols and the company "failed to cooperate" with the county's investigation of what were then about 150 total infections.According to the county Department of Public Health, an official order was issued Thursday mandating the "continuous closure" of the facility.Officials with LA Apparel could not be reached for comment Friday when county officials announced the extended closure."The death of four dedicated garment workers is heartbreaking and tragic," public health director Barbara Ferrer said in a statement. "Business owners and operators have a corporate, moral and social responsibility to their employees and their families to provide a safe work environment that adheres to all of the health officer directives -- this responsibility is important, now more than ever, as we continue to fight this deadly virus."Public health officials said Friday three workers from the plant died in early June, and one more died this month. The agency began investigating conditions at the plant on June 19 after being notified by a "concerned health care provider."According to the department, investigators asked the company for a list of all employees so it could be compared with testing results, but the company failed to provide it.In late June, inspectors found violations at the facility of distancing requirements and infection-control protocols, according to the department, noting that the company was using cardboard as a barrier between workers.On July 4, the company sent the department an "incomplete list" of employees, and by then 198 positive cases had been reported. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Adopters from across North America will travel to LAX Sunday to welcome some very special new members of their families — dogs rescued from the Chinese dog-meat trade.Two flights will arrive Sunday carrying a total of 27 canines, who will find loving homes in the United States and Canada thanks to the efforts of No Dogs Left Behind — a nonprofit group that rescues dogs from slaughterhouses, dog meat trucks, wet markets, and illegal dog traffickers.Eighteen of the dogs are beagles, and they'll be staying with fosters who work with The Beagle Freedom Project, which is sponsoring the flight along with NDLB and New York-based Rescue Paw Foundation.The remaining nine dogs have already been adopted. They were chosen via emails, phone calls, and even video chats, and will be greeted at the airport on Sunday by their new families, including some who have waited almost a year to meet their new furry friends."It takes a special person to fall in love with one of these sweet survivors over pictures and videos," Brandy Cherven, NDLB's president of adoptions and transports, told City News Service. "They never gave up on their dogs, and we are forever grateful to them. Local police have noted a disturbing increase in the amount of animals found to have been shot and dumped left to die.Previously, Scripps station WTVF in Nashville reported a?spike in the number of canine thefts in Middle Tennessee that was possibly connected to a local theft ring. Now, rather than just disappearing, the dogs are being killed.One beagle did survive. It was shot in the head and found dumped in a bag. Thankfully, veterinarians in nearby Winchester were able to save the dog.But others were not so lucky. Concerned citizens have sent in photos of dogs found shot and then dumped by the side of the road in a half-dozen middle Tennessee counties."It think it's horrible and we need to figure out why it's happening and who is doing it," said veterinarian Allison Fields at the Hermitage Animal Clinic in Davidson County.The dogs were shot with guns in more rural counties. Now, many wonder if some of them were among the many stolen in recent months."This is a big problem of people taking dogs from people coming into the yard and just snatching them out of yards and just taking them," said Earl Stouzenberger, who lost his dog Leia, earlier this year.Police have been checking for chips in the dead dogs hoping to locate owners."Absolutely, I'm sure they have. Animal Control or police stations will have a scanner," Fields said. But identifying the dogs doesn't solve the riddle of why they were shot and often dumped in public places. To date, no one has been charged or arrested in connection with the dog thefts or killings.Catching those responsible is a long shot. The best and really only line of defense for local pet owners is to keep an eye on them.Investigators say the shootings are difficult to explain. LOS ANGELES (AP) — The FBI is looking for three suspects who kidnapped a Chinese man after a business meeting in the Los Angeles area last month, but authorities haven't heard from the kidnappers since they demanded a million ransom and the man remains missing, investigators said Monday.Ruochen "Tony" Liao, 28, was abducted by three men on July 16 in San Gabriel — about 10 miles (16 kilometers) east of downtown Los Angeles — according to Gene Kowel, an assistant special-agent-in-charge at the FBI's office in Los Angeles.Liao, who owns a Southern California car dealership that sold high-end cars, such as Porches and Bentleys, had just finished an evening meeting with several business associates when three men pulled up in two vehicles — a Toyota minivan and a Range Rover — and abducted him, officials said.After they kidnapped him, the abductors contacted Liao's family and demanded that they pay a million ransom, but the money was not paid, Kowel said.On Monday, the FBI released a sketch of one of the men they believe was involved in the kidnapping, who they suspect may have been an acquaintance of Liao. The man, who the FBI identified only as "David," had attended the business meeting with Liao, according to Matthew Lombard, an attorney for Liao's family.Investigators are examining several theories in the case, including the possibility that Liao was involved in a business dispute and Liao had previously been involved in business deals with people who "were not the most reputable," Kowel said.Although the kidnappers had reached out initially to demand the ransom, Liao's family has not heard from them in about a month, he said."Our hope is that Tony is still alive.
