SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The month of love is upon us, which means couples planning to tie the knot on Valentine's Day don't have long to request a ceremony with the county.The San Diego County Clerk’s office is accepting appointments for couples wanting to renew their vows or get married on Feb. 14."We are excited to offer walk-in services at our historic downtown office on the waterfront for Valentine’s Day and don’t want couples to miss their chance at a Valentine’s Day wedding," said County Clerk Ernie Dronenburg. The downtown office (at 1600 Pacific Highway, Suite 273) will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for marriage licenses and ceremony appointments. Ceremonies can be performed at Waterfront Park or inside at ceremony rooks overlooking the bay.The County Clerk accepts walk-in services at its downtown location only and appointments are required at Chula Vista, San Marcos, and Santee offices.Non-confidential marriage licenses cost and an additional if a couple would like their ceremony to be performed by city staff in English or Spanish.Appointments can be made online at County Clerk's website or by phone at 619-237-0502. 1153

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Infinite Chemical Analysis Lab building in Miramar looks like any other chemical lab, but inside the products they are testing are all cannabis. InfiniteCal tests products for things like potency, pesticides, heavy metals and microbial analysis to make sure the products are safe for consumption and meet state standards. Josh Swider is the CEO and co-founder. Swider's company consists of roughly 45 employees, 30 of those are either chemists or biologists. The team tests products for licensed retailers to make sure their cannabis meets the standard for what is allowed by the state. When it comes to vaping, Swider says their analysis shows that what's making people sick is when the product is diluted, most recently with Vitamin E or Vitamin E acetate. According to the CDC, 33 people have died from lung related illnesses linked to e-ciggarettes or vaping products. Most of those samples tested by the FDA had THC. San Diego County has confirmed 22 vape related illnesses in the county. Although InfiniteCal doesn't just test products for vaping, Swider says the best thing a person can do is to do their research and make sure they are buying from a licensed retailer. He also recommends asking the business for their certificate of analysis to find out what's in the cannabis product they're consuming. InfiniteCal operates six days a week and also will tests an individual consumer's product if they show up to the lab. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Students, friends, and family are mourning the sudden death of a beloved East County teacher.John Berray, a longtime and well-known math teacher in Grossmont Union High School District, was seriously injured when he was leaving for work on Jan. 29.For an unknown reason, he got out of his car without it being placed in "park" and became pinned between his vehicle and his wife's vehicle, the county Medical Examiner said. He was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for an anoxic brain injury before he was pronounced dead on Feb. 12.According to a statement from Grossmont Union High School District, Berray worked at the district office as a digital learning coach. He most recently served as the district's math curriculum specialist where his passion for math led to innovations being used district wide.By all accounts, Berray was not only an exceptional educator but a husband, father, and friend.His career started in 1995 at West Hills High. He was selected by his students as the Golden Apple Award winner in 2000 and once again in 2008. His peers named him the West Hill High School teacher of the year in 2014. He went on to be named one of five 2014-15 San Diego County Teachers of the Year.After his passing, social media was filled with people living their thoughts and memories of Berray and his impact.Students, colleagues, and family will honor Berray with a memorial planned on March 14, Pi Day, at Journey Community Church in La Mesa. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The first-ever professional sports event to be held on an active military base will be held in San Diego this February.As a special thank you to the military, the San Diego Seals pro lacrosse team will play a regular season game on the flight line of MCAS Miramar on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, against the Vancouver Warriors. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Chicano Federation of San Diego County distributed hundreds of COVID-19 prevention kits in Barrio Logan to help prevent the spread of the disease in one of the county's hardest hit communities.The Chicano Federation partnered up with several local business to help provide over 500 kits to residents. Kits include children and adult face masks, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, and thermometers.According to our ABC 10News heat map, Barrio Logan's zip codes have reported some of the highest number of coronavirus cases in San Diego County. Data from local health officials shows Latinos and Hispanics make up over 60 percent of the number of positive cases in San Diego County."We think it's important to send the message that it's really important to stay alert, stay aware, to still follow the county and state messaging around COVID-19 including wearing masks and physical distancing," said Nancy Maldonado, President and CEO of The Chicano Federation of San Diego County. 1012
