You have just spent hours hiking up, and just when you think you have hit the peak, you realize it is a false summit and see this daunting second hill in front of you.That sinking feeling knowing you have done so much, yet still have so much longer to go, is what Hermanson says this second spike in COVID-19 numbers can feel like."We’re actually hoping for the absence of something,” said Hermanson. "Not getting sick isn’t quite as reinforcing as something that happens where we’re like, ‘Oh, I did this behavior and it resulted in this good outcome.'"“[Fatigue] can be internal, where you feel like you’ve got these sandbags on your shoulders and you can’t take another step,” added Bob Ciampi.Ciampi is a licensed clinical social worker and says the feeling is something a lot of us are familiar with: burnout. The same kind you might feel at work or at home when you are overwhelmed.To ‘refill the tank,’ many people might go out for a night of fun with friends, or go to the gym, but COVID-19 has closed many of these places nationwide only exacerbating the issue. So, it begs the question: what can we do?“The things that we need to do are be aware of our thinking,” said Dr. Hermanson. "To say I’ll control what I can control. I’ll take it a minute at a time.”“Some people call that bite-sized pieces,” added Ciampi.Ciampi and Hermanson say the idea is to make things more manageable. Instead of looking at the daunting whole, they suggest breaking it up into more attainable parts.Small victories can help give that reinforcement. “It can be a little bit of learned helplessness,” she said. “It’s the idea that in certain circumstances where we feel like nothing we do is good enough, nothing that we do keeps bad things from happening, and so we kind of give up.”Another thing Hermanson and Ciampi suggest is adjusting our mindset or going to therapy.Hermanson says the simple knowledge that millions of other people feel just like us can be empowering and help push us through. 2494

Anthony Mele was dining at a steakhouse in Southern California with his daughter on his lap when a homeless man allegedly walked up to him Wednesday and stabbed him in the neck.Jamal Jackson, 49, was arrested shortly after the attack in Ventura and has been charged with premeditated first -degree murder, the Ventura County District Attorney's Office said.Mele died the next day, but his daughter was not injured. ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The U.S. Naval Academy has named its first ever African American female brigade commander – Midshipman 1st Class Sydney Barber.The brigade commander is the highest leadership position within the student body and it’s held for a semester. Barber will hold the role this spring semester.Barber will be the 16th woman selected for brigade commander in the 44 years women have been attending the Naval Academy. The first female brigade commander was in the class of 1992.“Earning the title of brigade commander speaks volumes, but the title itself is not nearly as significant as the opportunity it brings to lead a team in doing something I believe will be truly special,” said Barber. “I am humbled to play a small role in this momentous season of American history.”Barber is from Lake Forest, Illinois, and is majoring in a mechanical engineering, with aspirations of commissioning as a Marine Corps ground officer.As a walk-on sprinter and hurdler of the Navy Women’s Varsity Track and Field team, Barber has lettered all three years of competing and is a USNA record holder for the outdoor 4x400m relay.Word of the announcement spread quickly after a social media post by the first Black female to graduate from USNA, Janie Mines. She wrote, “This brought me to tears. This young woman, Midshipman Sydney Barber, will be the first Black Female Brigade Commander at the U.S. Naval Academy. 40 years later. Thank you, Sydney! An auction house in New Jersey is offering bidders the chance to blow up an Atlantic City casino and hotel once owned by President Donald Trump.Bodnar's Auction Sales says it will open auction bidding Saturday for the chance to press the button that will ignite the controlled implosion of the Trump Plaza Casino and Hotel.According to a description on the live bidding website, all proceeds from the auction will "benefit" the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City."Ever since the start of this pandemic they have seen an increase of young children and adolescents benefit from the services of The Boys & Girl Club and are in need of all the assistance they can get for the community," Bodnar's said in its item description.Bidding for the chance to implode the building is open to anyone, and Bodnar's adds that the demolition can be conducted "anywhere in the world as well as close to the Plaza as we can safely get you there."Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino opened in 1984 — Trump's first property on the famed Atlantic City Boardwalk. However, the casino closed in 2014 and has sat abandoned ever since.In June, Carl Icahn — the senior lender for the Trump Plaza's mortgage — submitted plans to Atlantic for the casino's planned demolition. The city asked that the building be demolished because it had fallen into disrepair, and debris was falling to the boardwalk below.The implosion of the casino is currently slated for early February, according to CNN.
