(KGTV/KNXV) - Insomnia is a problem we often associate with adults, but doctors say more kids are becoming insomniacs and they blame technology. Doctors say screen time, checking cell phones and tablets before bed is perking up the part of our brain that controls vision and kids aren't falling asleep. Not enough sleep is resulting in behavioral and attention problems, and as a result, parents notice grades are starting slip. The signs to look for: - Noisy breathing- Respiratory pauses- Increased restlessness- Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleepIf your child has an itchy nose, sneezes a lot, constantly picks their nose or have puffy eyes, it's the sign of another issue that's keeping them from getting good sleep."That's what we thought 20-30 years ago that lack of sleep, or sleep disturbances, would cause the puffy eyes. We actually know that puffy eyes are allergic shiners and that is the opposite relation. It's the allergic shiners that cause the sleep disturbances," said Dr. Walter Castro, a pulmonologist and pediatric sleep specialist for Banner Health. To improve sleep doctors suggest:- Get kids treated for allergies- Limit screen time before bed- Develop a routine like showering in dim light, reading a real book; it helps signal the brain that it's time to sleep.- More exercise- High schoolers may need a melatonin prescription because hormones make them night owlsA new study from Rand Corporation finds pushing back the first bell at school could not only help students get the sleep they need but also add billions of dollars to the economy.Based on an 8:30 a.m. start in 47 states, the study finds the first year returns start low because schools would have to invest in moving after school programs and maybe more buses as everyone would be on the same drop off schedule. It also projects a .3 billion surge in the first year. In 20 years the economy makes billion which they figure comes from improved graduation rates leading to better jobs and fewer medical costs from sleep-related car crashes, obesity, and mental health.Even local pediatric sleep specialists agree.“The academy of sleep medicine is pushing to move the starting time of high school, which other countries in Europe already do, and hopefully we'll start that movement soon because we learned you become a night owl when you're an adolescent," said Dr. Castro.Click here to check out the full results of the study. 2568
“I only have a minute.Sixty seconds in it.Forced upon me, I did not choose it,But I know that I must use it.Give account if I abuse it.Suffer, if I lose it.Only a tiny little minute,But eternity is in it.”- Dr. Benjamin E. (KGTV) -- Kanye West said on Twitter that he is going to take a break from policy and instead focus on being creative. The announcement comes after he was credited for designing a clothing line aimed at turning black people away from the Democratic Party. In a twitter post on Tuesday, the music award-winning lyricist denied involvement in the design of the "Blexit" logo and T-shirts, or having any connection with the movement."I introduced Candace to the person who made the logo and they didn’t want their name on it so she used mine. I never wanted any association with Blexit. I have nothing to do with it," West tweeted. 646
6/10"Paper Mario: The Origami King" tries really hard to make a good first impression. The game’s art style is dressed up to dazzle, the gameplay is simple and approachable, and the music is among the best of any Switch game to date. With every preceding moment, however, this game’s chores began to outweigh its charm, making it a paper-thin adventure for Nintendo’s most iconic character and one of the more disappointing gaming experiences of 2020.The Paper Mario series is known for its turn-based combat, and this entry continues that tradition. Even though it introduces a new ring-based battlefield that requires enemies to be lined up prior to the attack, it maintains the typical exchange of blows until HP is depleted. Rotating enemies is extremely repetitive, but it’s a lack of a leveling-up system that truly makes the combat feel like a drag. The absence of a skill tree equivalent not only creates for less attention to detail in battles, but it also had me wanting to avoid them altogether. Rather than gaining experience points, you’re rewarded with coins that allow for purchasing weapons (that eventually break down) and extra health, but with the game’s battles being so easy, I rarely felt the need to purchase anything. Boss battles provide a slightly tougher challenge, but after a few failed runs, even they begin to feel like busywork, making me long for a meaty JRPG experience with a purpose. 1427
4S RANCH, CA (KGTV) - A rash of street racing on a straightaway in 4S Ranch has neighbors calling for the county to intervene.Surveillance images show the beginning of an illegal street race on Four Gee Road Tuesday morning that ended in a crash. No one was injured, but neighbors are growing weary of the close calls.“This most recent incident was probably the most severe case we’ve ever seen,” said Tony Cesario, who has dozens of the incidents on video.Cesario’s security camera on his back fence caught the moments before a BMW racing a pickup truck ran off the road.“This happens on a weekly basis,” said Michael Chard, another neighbor, “it’s teenagers.”Residents say they call the authorities when it happens, but the drivers are always gone before law enforcement arrives.“At some point, somebody’s going to get killed,” added Chard. The county has previously denied resident’s attempts to add speed bumps on the half-mile long straightway that runs from Mount Gee to Camino Del Norte.A hangup for their efforts is that Four Gee Road is used for fire access. The Rancho Santa Fe Fire District has the final approval for any road alterations as part of the the fire code.A spokesperson says the speed bumps can damage their equipment when they are responding to a fire.Lucy Chard was home when Tuesday’s crash occurred and she says it’s only a matter of time until happens again.“There was a line of kids right down there waiting for the school bus,” said Chard standing where the BMW crashed, “and if this happened a few hundred yards down the road it would have been a different situation.” 1610
