A newly proposed Ohio bill would make it punishable by law for physicians to medically aid transgender children through gender transition therapies. Two Ohio lawmakers have proposed charging physicians who do treat transgender children with a third-degree felony if they attempt therapeutic or surgical procedures to change the gender of anyone under the age of 18. It would also allow parents to sue those physicians. While the bill hasn't been formally filed yet, it's already caused concern among those who support transgender rights. "Without the medications, and the access to doctors and therapists and all this, I don't know where these children are going to turn or what they're going to do," said Jessica Cicchinelli, the mother of a transgender child. "And that, that scares me more than anything." Cicchinelli's child is one of 1,600 patients receiving treatment at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, in the Living with Change Clinic specifically designed to serve transgender children. Two doctors, a social worker and several members of nursing personnel work in the department currently. The conservative group Citizens for Community Values supports the bill and other legislation like it. Citizens for Community Values has not responded to a request for comment. Reps. Sedrick Denson and Bridgid Kelly responded, saying they do not support it. Five other state state lawmakers did not respond. Cicchinelli said the treatments her child receive are important, and help her child thrive. She's working to raise money to help fund the work that happens in the Living with Change Clinic."These lawmakers should not have the right to choose how we live our lives and the type of medication and that, you know, that we get," said Cicchinelli. A powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake swayed buildings and cracked streets and foundations in Southern California on Friday night, sending terrified residents into the streets a day after another quake hit.The latest earthquake Friday struck 11 miles northeast of Ridgecrest, according to the US Geological Survey. It was five times bigger and 11 times stronger than Thursday's 6.4 -magnitude earthquake, also centered near Ridgecrest, CNN Meteorologist Brandon Miller said.There's been an average of one aftershock per minute since Friday's quake in the southern part of the state, according to the US Geological Survey website.Gas leaks caused structure fires throughout Ridgecrest, residents reported water main breaks, and power and communications were out in some areas, according to Mark Ghilarducci, director of the Governors' Office of Emergency Management.Several injuries were reported, according to Kern County spokeswoman Megan Person, but Kern County Fire Chief David Witt told reporters there were no known fatalities.About 130 residents from Bakersfield and Trona were staying in a temporary shelter, Person said."On behalf of all Californians, I offer my heartfelt support to those affected by tonight's earthquake near Ridgecrest," Gov. A Michigan woman said she escaped two human traffickers from their home up north last week.According to Michigan State Police, troopers were called to a home in northern Michigan around 3 a.m. on Jan. 10, to investigate the alleged human trafficking case.Roscommon County Sheriff's deputies said they had a woman in custody for stealing a vehicle, but the woman said she escaped a home where two men forced her to clean and perform acts of prostitution.The woman told troopers she was being held against her will by two suspects, identified as James Jarrell and Jeffrey Kobel, both 50 and from Roscommon.She said she had been brought three hours north from Ypsilanti to Roscommon County a few days earlier. There was also alleged drug dealing going on at the residence.The MSP Emergency Support Team and other agencies executed a search warrant at the house and arrested both men.Police charged Jarrell with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of unlawful imprisonment and one count of habitual offender fourth offense.
