VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Two men were arrested after stealing a car and crashing into another vehicle Tuesday in the North County.The two men carjacked a driver at gunpoint just before 3 p.m. in the 900 block of Postal Way in Vista, according to San Diego Sheriff's Department. After yanking the driver out of his vehicle and taking off, the two men soon crashed into another vehicle, before fleeing.A detective who happened to be in the area heard the call over the radio and started searching for the suspect, SDSO said. When he spotted the suspects, he began to follow them and relay directions to an SDSO helicopter overhead.Deputies took over and a brief pursuit began. The two men crashed into a curb and fled the vehicle. Deputies caught both men after a foot chase.SDSO said a loaded gun and illegal drugs were discovered in the vehicle.SDSO said the two men, identified as Joseph Laxton and Ricardo Hernandez, were arrested on charges of carjacking, hit-and-run, a felon in possession of a firearm, drugs, violating parole, threat causing death or great bodily injury, and participating in a criminal street gang. 1128

(KGTV) - A North County man is being charged in the attempted murder of his brother, San Diego County Sheriff's Department announced.SDSO deputies said 19-year-old Juan Sixto was brought to the hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound on Feb. 18. just before 9:30 p.m.During their investigation, deputies said they determined the shooting likely took place at Sixto's apartment on Pomelo Drive in Vista. There, deputies detained Sixto's brother, 27-year-old Fredy Sixto. WASHINGTON (AP) — Chief Justice John Roberts spent a night in a hospital last month after he fell and injured his forehead.A Supreme Court spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday night that Roberts was treated at a hospital on June 21 for an injury sustained in a fall while walking for exercise near his home.The spokeswoman, Kathleen L. Arberg, said in a statement that Roberts' injury required sutures, and out of an abundance of caution, he stayed in the hospital overnight.Arberg also said it’s believed that the fall was likely due to light-headedness caused by dehydration.The Supreme Court’s statement followed initial reporting on the incident by The Washington Post, which received a tip.The Post reports that the 65-year-old judge suffered a fall at a Maryland country club and that his injuries were serious enough to require sutures. 844
VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - The man who tried to kidnap a 15-year-old girl in front of her Encinitas home was sentenced Monday to seven years in jail.Jeremiah Owens, 28, grabbed the girl and pinned her to the ground as she waxed her surfboard in front of her home on Neptune Ave in July 2017.Owens tried to drag the girl to a nearby pickup truck occupied by Christopher White, but the girl was able to break free and run home.White was arrested two days after the assault when a witness matched his pickup truck to the description of one which deputies wanted to find. Owens was arrested hours later.RELATED: Men accused of trying to kidnap Encinitas girlOwens could have received nine years in jail, but a judge gave him seven years and ordered him to register as a sex offender for life.White pleaded guilty Tuesday to being an accessory to kidnapping and will be sentenced June 19.The girl and her parents attended Owens' sentencing but did not make a statement.
