SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A thief with a U-Haul truck and young accomplice made off with a haul at a home in Rancho San Diego.Sue Sobke and her husband returned to their home on Calle Deposito Saturday night and found their patio sliding door shattered. "Just a violation. A lot of fear and panic," said Sobke.Inside, two rooms were ransacked. The jewelry box in her bedroom was emptied of hundreds of pieces. Many of the piece were sentimental, one in particular. Her father, a World War II veteran, bought her mother a gold ring while in China after the war. Both of her parents have passed. "Felt close to her ... means my mom and how much I loved her. How much my dad loved her ... now it's gone," said Sobke.Her mission to get it back could depend on a piece of surveillance video. The video shows a U-Haul truck making a turn near her home. Neighbors spotted it parked in front of her home. "They saw a man in my backyard, in his 40s, fit and wearing a hat," said Sobke.Sitting in the truck was a boy about 12 years old."A neighbor saw the boy in the truck listening to music. He waved at him and drove off," said Sobke.Whether the boy was used as a lookout or diversion, Sobke can only shake her head."It's clever. I'll admit that. No one would suspect a young boy waiting for his father. It's horrible, training him," said Sobke.The training may not be over. Detectives told Sobke that a U-Haul truck has been seen near other break-ins in the area. "For about three weeks, they've been chasing this U-Haul truck," said Sobke.A sheriff's department spokesperson says the burglary has not yet been linked to any other cases. 1631

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A serial flasher who exposed himself to seven women near University of California San Diego was sentenced Thursday, according to City Attorney Mara Elliott. Nicholas Saienni, 34, pleaded guilty to four misdemeanor charges of indecent exposure and received a sentence of 180 days of custody, three years of probation, a waiver of his Fourth Amendment search and seizure rights, and court fines and fees. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender and get counseling. If he violates his probation, he could face an additional year and a half in jail, according to prosecutors. San Diego Police arrested Saienni after eight separate incidents between January and March 2019. Prosecutors said Saienni exposed himself to the women while dressed as a jogger and wearing a hooded sweatshirt to conceal his identity. Saienni confessed to the indecent exposure and admitted he had been convicted of similar acts in Delaware in 2018, Elliott reported. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — After a bitter primary, voters are getting a clearer picture of who will move on in the race to replace Congressman Duncan Hunter in East County's 50th Congressional District. Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar and Republican Darrell Issa, a former Congressman, are leading the field. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Campa-Najjar had 34 percent of the vote; Issa had 25 percent, former San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio had 21 percent, and State Senator Brian Jones had 11 percent. There are still about 350,000 provisional and mail-in ballots to be counted. It is unclear how many of those would include district voters. On Wednesday, Campa-Najjar and Issa began taking at aim at one another in anticipation of facing off in the November runoff. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An abandoned building on the edge of Hillcrest could become a game changer when it comes to mental health services.The County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Wednesday to explore turning the 7-acre site into a behavioral health services center. The facility would be in an area where many of the most vulnerable have no other place to go. The county had initially shopped the site for redevelopment into high-end housing, but County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher pushed his colleagues to make the change. "The old and lingering problem in many ways requires us to think differently," Fletcher said. Fletcher said he recently saw a man walking in the area in a hospital gown with his emergency room bracelet still on, carrying a clear plastic bag. "It's really difficult, there's not enough places to place them, and they churn out pretty quickly, and can end up back in our emergency room."Maysent said homeless people with mental health issues enter the emergency room multiple times a night. UCSD Medical Center, however, has only 18 beds in its closed inpatient unit. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An Escondido man who pleaded guilty to firing several rounds into the air in a crowded area when he couldn't get tickets to an Ice Cube concert was sentenced to three years behind bars Wednesday. Daniel Elizarraras, 22, pleaded guilty to discharging a gun at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in early September of 2018. Authorities say Elizarraras raised the gun before shooting into the air while he was in a large crowd near the ticket booth. Elizarraras was shot three times in the torso and once in the arm after he pointed the gun at a deputy. RELATED: Man admits he opened fire before Ice Cube concert at Del Mar FairgroundsElizarraras was facing up to 19 years behind bars, but a charge of assault on a peace officer with a semi-automatic weapon was dismissed as part of his plea. Defense Attorney Pedro Bernal said Elizarraras was severely depressed and trying to kill himself by suicide by cop. They asked for a lower sentence.However, the prosecution said he acted violently, causing chaos, and the situation could have been much worse.Judge Kathleen Lewis agreed saying, "I think it’s amazing that no one was injured or killed in this circumstance.”Before the shooting, officials said the venue was at capacity and began turning people away from the horse races and concert. Fights erupted between security guards and would-be concert-goers who were upset that they wouldn’t be allowed into the show.
