She has accused her former husband of abuse, including domestic violence in 2009 and 2015.The day after Smith's firing, Meyer told reporters that he knew about the 2009 allegation, but didn't know about the 2015 allegation.Then Courtney Smith told Stadium, a sports network, that she told Shelley Meyer about the alleged 2015 incident that year -- leading to speculation about whether the coach did know.Ohio State, already embroiled in separate scandals involving alleged sex abuse by a now-deceased athletics doctor and a diving coach, put Meyer on leave and formed a group led by a former Securities and Exchange Commission chairwoman to conduct an investigation.Meyer later said that he had been inadequately prepared to discuss the issue in late July, and that he had "followed reporting protocols and procedures ... regarding the Zach Smith incident in 2015."Zach Smith told ESPN on August 3 that he indeed discussed the 2015 incident with Meyer as police investigated the matter. (KGTV) - An Oceanside man returned home to an unwelcome sight: a gay slur spray-painted across his garage door.Amid the tranquility of the Oceana South senior community, something ugly happened."I didn't expect this ... it hurts a lot," said Earls, choking back tears.For Earls, his emotions have been hard to control since he returned home on Pear Blossom Avenue past 7 p.m. Sunday. That's when he discovered a gay slur in black spray paint. Earls is openly gay."I just don't understand why people are so cruel. It just took me back to my childhood and the bullies on the playground," said Earls.The discovery was not a complete surprise. In the past few months, Earls says several neighbors have directed the same gay slur at him while walking near his home."One neighbor was muttering it quietly as she walks by. Another neighbor was the same person I saw near the garage when I discovered the slur," said Earls.Amid all the pain, something remarkable happened. After police arrived, a stranger came up to him."A man handed me an envelope, hugged me and said he loved me ... Inside was 0 and a note asking the money to be used for a reward. Shows there are good people. I have a lot of great neighbors," said Earls.Earls has told police about which neighbors have used the slurs before. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) — After a decade of delays, the Oceanside Beach Resort is weeks away from construction.The initial approval for the project happened 13 years ago when the City of Oceanside selected the developer. The project is located near the small white beach home featured in the movie Top Gun. 10News talked with Senior Vice President of S.D. Malkin Properties, Jeremy Cohen, who said they ran into many roadblocks along the way."We faced a lawsuit, we won, it was appealed, and we won that, and that kind of brought us to where we are today," said Cohen.The lawsuit claimed the program the city uses to share hotel taxes and support the development violated the state constitution. Along with a drawn-out lawsuit, they also were pushed back by the Great Recession and a period of delays in redevelopment across California.Cohen tells 10News, “Although it had been done dozens of times in the state before, it was the first time it was challenged. The court found it was completely constitutional, completely acceptable, and so it just delayed us for three years."Construction is now set to start in December 2018, just before the new year. “There will be a couple of months of excavation; then you’ll see a concrete superstructure, about six or seven stories,” Cohen detailed.The parking for the beach resort will be relocated to an underground garage. As far as the Top Gun house is concerned, it will be completely taken off the property. Historians will preserve the exterior and Cohen will update the inside.“We’re looking at it as a really special kind of ice cream place so everyone can come in and get a 'top cone' from the Top Gun house," Cohen said. 1674
