Two uniformed police officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were denied service Thursday night at The Lodge at Cactus near Cactus Avenue and Southern Highlands Parkway.A post about the incident has received a lot of attention on social media.The graveyard police officers had gone into the restaurant for food and the bartender reportedly told them that the restaurant did not serve "you guys" anymore. The police union sent its membership a letter earlier today that called the incident disgusting and offensive.There was an incident and The Lodge has since apologized. The director of operations for The Lodge says they welcome all first responders and have been serving them for 30 years.The union says that it accepts the apology and believes it was an isolated incident involving one employee. LVMPD also sent the following statement to the media:An incident occurred on February 13, 2020 where two on-duty LVMPD officers were refused service at The Lodge bar/restaurant when they stopped for lunch. While we consider this behavior unacceptable, we firmly believe that the refusal was an employee acting solely on his own, and it does not represent the viewpoint of the establishment. According to management at The Lodge it welcomes law enforcement at its business. The involved employee has now been suspended from work. The LVMPD has worked hard establishing relationships with its’ business partners in the community and the presence of officers is welcomed by business owners.NEW: 1523

Typhoon Lekima made landfall in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang early Saturday morning, hours after China issued a red alert about the storm.The storm reached China at about 1am local time (1pm Friday ET), according to estimates from CNN Weather.According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, Lekima sustained winds of 175 kph (110 mph), making it equivalent to a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. WAVERY, Ohio — One of the women accused of lying to cover up eight rural Ohio slayings in 2016 wants to return to church to teach Sunday school.In a supplemental memorandum asking to modify the conditions of 76-year-old Fredericka Wagner's house arrest filed in Pike County court Jan. 31, her attorney asked Judge Randy Deering to allow Wagner to leave her home to visit Lucasville Mission Church on Sundays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in order to attend services from 2 to 3 p.m. and teach Sunday school from 3 to 4 p.m.Wagner has attended services and taught Sunday school at the church "each and every week since 1976," other than when she was caring for her dying husband, her attorney wrote in the court filing.In a letter supporting Wagner's request, Pastor Aaron David Spencer wrote that she "needs the spiritual strength she gains from attending our Praise and Worship.""I can attest to the fact that Fredericka Wagner never missed a service with exception of the time her husband was on hospice ... She began attending the Mission again the very next Sunday and never missed a service since," he wrote. "She was there every time services were held from August 21, 2017 until she was arrested November 13, 2018. We respectfully ask that she be allowed to attend our services on Sunday."The church's small congregation of about 30 has dwindled to an average of just eight to 10 people each Sunday since "the recent legal events," Spencer wrote."Her Sunday school class is without a teacher and the children miss her very much," he wrote.
