SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man running in and out of traffic while naked in Little Italy died after being taken into police custody Friday.Witnesses say the man was yelling for help in the area of 600 W. Grape Street at about 11 p.m. When the first San Diego Police officer responded, he was able to place handcuffs on the man.As the officer led the man out of traffic, though, witnesses told police the man began to struggle and was taken to the ground by the officer. At least two civilians had to help restrain the man until more officers arrived.RELATED: El Cajon hit-and-run crash suspect found hiding under bedThe man was taken to a nearby hospital where he died just before midnight. The man's death was ruled as an in-custody death.During the struggle, the man suffered a cut to the head. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A local high school teacher is using her classroom to foster conversations about social justice. In light of recent events, the community has stepped in to make sure the talks continue.Racism, diversity, and inclusion are just some of the words that sit on Jennifer Koller's vocabulary wall inside of her Steele Canyon High School classroom. Three years ago, she decided a class with those topics were needed for her students."The course was designed after years of watching the kids disconnect from the curriculum that didn't feel relevant to them," says Koller.With materials found at Teaching Tolerance, an aid for educators, it allowed her to shape the Literature and Social Justice course.It starts with identity, it moves to diversity, has justice, and ends with action," says Koller. "The last unit is when students really get to pick their own social justice issue and educate their classmates on something that's near and dear to their hearts."Recent Steele Canyon graduate, Tia Saunders, took Ms. Koller's course. She says it allowed students to have tough conversations, like race, with each other."It gave us all a chance to really just see everybody's side and truly pick whatever you want to do and understand why everybody thinks the way that they do," says Saunders.Koller says after seeing the recent events around San Diego and the country, following the death of George Floyd, she reached out to the community for help getting new anti-racism books for the class. The books were fully funded in less than two days."I feel my step into this next is to foster more intense and courageous conversations about race," says Koller. "I just wanted to start the new school year with ultimately the most relevant and interesting materials for the kids in my class."Students taking the Literature and Social Justice course will receive high school credit and credit towards admission to CSU and University of California schools. 1964

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A record number of voters have already cast their ballots in San Diego County. Registrar Michael Vu said of the 1.92 million voters in the county, 1,081,727 already voted as of Sunday. The Registrar of Voters pushed for early voting in 2020 to avoid crowds on election days and Vu said that hope has been met.“I’ve never seen numbers like this in advance of Election Day before,” said Vu.He said that they’re expecting between 80% and 85% turnout this year. With two more days to cast ballots, they’re not sure what method the remaining voters will use to vote. He added that in the 2016 presidential election, close to 500,000 people voted in person on Election Day, and it’s possible that many could still vote in person Tuesday, meaning the traditional Election Day lines could still be seen.“Hundreds of thousands of individuals we’re still expecting to vote and the question is will they vote with their mail ballot or will they vote in person,” said Vu.He said the fate of the next couple of days are in the hands of the voters and how they decide to vote.Vu added that if and when people vote, they’re encouraged to go to their designated super poll location. There are 235 super polls across the county. Residents can locate their polling place online here. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A recent SurveyUSA/10News poll shows 53% of San Diegans are worried about the cost of food, and that gets especially troublesome in the summer, when kids are out of school. Many families lose much needed support from free or reduced price meals at school. But a program through Feeding San Diego is working to make sure every kid has the "Fuel for Summer" they need."It's both heartwarming and heartbreaking," says Feeding San Diego CEO Vince Hall. "That summer meal we're able to provide is probably the first meal that they've had of the day."1 in 6 children in San Diego faces hunger and food insecurity. The Fuel for Summer program provides meals that follow all federal nutritional guidelines. They include a protein, side, vegetable, fruit and healthy drink. Often, Hall says, they're introducing kids to foods they don't get on a regular basis."I went to one of the meals last summer," says Hall with a smile. "There were kids who'd never had a tamale, and had to be instructed on how to eat a tamale, and then they thought they were absolutely delicious."The Fuel for Summer program has 16 sites, some feed as many as 200 kids every day. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new investigation by CNN reveals at least 103 incidents of Uber drivers being accused of sexually assaulting or abusing passengers in the last four years. One of those drivers was John David Sanchez, a San Diego area man who was arrested, convicted and sentenced to 80 years in prison. Investigators say he drugged and assaulted multiple victims. Uber issued the following statement that reads in part: 462
