The Dollar General has created its own line called Believe Beauty, and a majority of the products are under .Consumer reporter Annie Taylor tested the makeup to see how it compares to the high-end lines and if it’s safe to use.Believe Beauty’s foundation and face powder contained ingredients that initially raised some flags, including talc and mica.“In large concentrations, for example talc, if you inhale it, can cause lung disease,” says dermatologist Dr. Neina Dajani. “But in makeup and in small amounts, they are considered safe.” There were also a lot of preservatives on the ingredient list.“Preservatives come off as a bad thing, but it’s not,” Dr. Dajani says. “You don’t want bacteria and fungus growing in your makeup.”The manufacture who makes the Dollar General makeup also makes celebrity Drew Barrymore’s Flower Beauty and clothing brand Zara’s makeup line.“The difference is the packaging, the celebrity endorsements, and they may make sure they put more effort into the makeup going on more elegantly,” says Dr. Dajani. “The pigments are more high-end and the fragrance is more high-end, but the ingredients really are the same.”When using the products, it took a little bit more blending and more product to get the makeup looking flawless on the skin, but ultimately, the end result looks similar to a high-end makeup look.After eight hours of wearing, the makeup held up pretty well, according to consumer reporter Annie Taylor. A teacher’s aide at a Parma, Ohio, school is taking time during the holidays to give free haircuts to students during study hall.Nerjes Taweel, 21, is a licensed cosmetologist and instructional aide at Summit Academy, now combining her two passions to help out students as they head off on break. “I enjoy it because you get to see their reaction after you do the transformation,” Taweel said. “It just makes you feel good when they feel good.”Taweel works out of a school conference room converted into a pop-up salon, complete with clippers, capes, scissors and hairstyling essentials. Since November, she has given haircuts to more than 40 students and has dozens more “appointments” to go before winter break.“The last couple days I’ll start a little bit earlier so I can make sure everyone goes to Christmas break happy with how their hairstyle is,” Taweel said.The haircuts are completely free for students, which some say is a huge help for them and their families.In addition to the teaching and haircuts, Taweel is currently pursuing a degree in social work at Cleveland State University. 1110

Now, filing taxes this year is causing some confusion. “Normally, busy season is a challenge in and of itself, but this has added many more layers,” said Elieen Sherr, with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.Sherr has had an increase number of people confused on whether they are supposed to file their income taxes now, or if the federal income tax deadline extension applies to them.“This all happened in the last few weeks, and the states, they were waiting for the IRS to come out with their guidance,” said Sherr. “At first, it was just payment relief. Then, it was filing and payment relief, so that was confusing.”Sherr explained, just shy of the normal tax deadline, there is now some clearer guidance.The federal government has extended it deadline for federal tax filing and payments to July 15, 2020. Many states have now moved their filing deadlines to match.However, in a few states like Mississippi, Virginia, and Idaho, you have to file earlier. The deadline is May 15 in Mississippi, June 1 for Virginia, and June 15 in Idaho.Differing state and federal deadlines have some wondering if you file your state return early can you file your federal at the later deadline?“Generally, you have to start with the federal, so you will have to start with the federal to get to a state return,” said Sherr.Some good news in that instance: if you owe money on your federal return, you won’t have to pay that until July 15.
