EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- An act of kindness on the job went a long way for an El Cajon family. On Christmas eve, two El Cajon police officers didn’t hesitate to buy dinner for a family living in their car. While always ready to respond to calls, officers never know exactly what they'll find. On this Christmas Eve call, they found a woman named Juanita and her two children, living in their car. Detective Travis Howard is President of the El Cajon Police Officers Association. He says the officers bought the family dinner at Jack in the Box and then closed the call. But after their shift, they wanted to do more, dipping in their own pockets to get the family a hotel room for two nights so they wouldn't be homeless on Christmas. Guests are walked through everything from wood selection, fretboard construction, and modeling the shape of a particular model, down to the finer details and to final assembly."We try to paint a pretty complete picture," Kirlin said. "We do things in a different way than other companies do. It's an interesting marriage of technology and hands-on attention to detail." Taylor Guitars also partners with the San Diego Music Foundation to help supply guitars to local schools."We know that music education is really important to that next generation ... as a part of that community we want to do what we can," Kirlin says. "For years now, we've been helping put guitars into schools for instructors who do such a great job to inspire kids and to help them begin their guitar journey, begin their musical journey."And while schools may face budget constraints to arts and music programs over time, the interest in guitars isn't going anywhere, Kirlin says. If anything, he believes — like all new skills — practice makes perfect."People wonder about is there a waning interest in guitar playing in the world. I think the reality is, there's certainly a lot of things competing for people's attention," Kirlin said, noting last year that Taylor Guitars made the most guitars in a year than ever in their history. "At the same time, I think as long as people are around, there'll be music around."I think sometimes the barrier for people is not picking up a guitar, but sticking with it. Dunkin' is permanently closing about 800 locations throughout the country — about eight percent of its restaurants in the U.S.The company detailed the changes in its quarterly earnings report on Thursday.Dunkin' described the closures as "real estate portfolio rationalizations." EL CAJON (KGTV) -- Authorities are working to clear a fuel spill Sunday afternoon after a small plane crashed landed onto a quiet El Cajon neighborhoodThe plane crashed sometime around 2 p.m. at 2nd Street and El Rey in El Cajon.The pilot was en route to Gillispie Field, a little more than a mile from where it crashed.Authorities say two people were on board the aircraft but suffered no injuries.There was a small fuel leak following the crash and the plane knocked down some wires when it crash landed. EL CAJON (KGTV) -- Investigators are gathering clues to determine what caused a deadly single-car crash along a major roadway in El Cajon early Friday morning.The crash was reported at around 2:20 a.m. Friday by witnesses traveling to nearby pharmacy on Fletcher Parkway near Navajo Road. The witnesses, a woman and her young daughter, called 9-1-1 after discovering a wrecked white SUV fully engulfed in flames. According to El Cajon Police, the driver was heading westbound on Fletcher Parkway when they stuck a tree. The SUV immediately caught fire.The woman and other good Samaritans tried to pull the driver out of the burning vehicle.Crews arrived and also tried to rescue the trapped motorist but the victim died in the blaze.No information about the victim has been released at this time.Both directions of Fletcher Parkway near Navajo Road were closed as of 6 a.m. while officials continue their investigation. 928
