SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A San Francisco firefighter who died this week was knocked over a third-floor railing by a water blast from a valve he had “inadvertently” opened during a training exercise. Firefighter Jason Cortez was participating in a training drill Wednesday when he was injured. The 42-year-old married father of two died an hour later at a hospital. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- The DMV is apologizing for long wait times as they work through a new queuing system and problems with the REAL ID.Wait times (without an appointment) used to be under two hours, now they're closer to 4-5 hours. The DMV issued this statement to 10News:The issue is employees have to manually enter the ID number given to each customer, since a new system went online two weeks ago. The ID number consists of your initials and the last four digits of your phone number.The process prior was completely automatic.The other issue relates to the REAL ID. Employees are taking more time to explain to customers what they need to have in order to get the ID. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Holiday shopping season has officially kicked off with Black Friday and Small-Business Saturday. But with Toys R Us no longer in the picture, retailers are finding unique ways to cash in on the billion-dollar industry. Kids will always be drawn to play and make-believe. But for parents, it’s about helping Santa get the deals.“He loves to jump. He loves to run," Chedna Patin said. "So I think this will be a great play station for my baby,” she said while pointing at a piano toy.Patin said this year, she and her husband are buying their son’s holiday toys at a big box store.“Sam’s Club is majorly for groceries, buying bulk. But now as they are increasing their toy collection, I think for parents, it’s a good thing," Patin said. In fact, her one-year-old son Viann’s entire nursery came out of a Toys R Us catalog. But since the toy giant filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, she had to look elsewhere.Since 1948, Toys R Us has dominated the toy market-- last year claiming almost 5% of the .4 billion industry.  Now that they are gone, retailers like Sam's Club saw an opportunity.“We have added about 70 new toys this holiday season," Sam's Club member experience manager, Victor Aguilar said. “We have way more toys than before, that way [parents are] not running around everywhere trying to get their toys. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Thieves hit a well-known business causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. Bill Howe Plumbing, located on Aero Drive, had their work trucks vandalized as thieves steal gas from the gas tanks. Fleet manager Rhett Wheeler says the business has been targeted at least three times in the last month. “Its a shock that someone will crawl underneath a car with a drill, drill a hole in a gas tank, to steal a couple of gallons of gasoline,” says Wheeler. Thieves have damaged at least 10 vehicles, costing the family-owned company around ,000 in damages. “We end up losing a truck for two or three days per occurrence,” says Wheeler. Wheeler is urging everyone, including businesses, to check their vehicles of leaking gas before driving off. The company has reported the incidents to police. (KGTV) - As COVID-19 cases continue to increase nationwide, the demand for testing grows.CVS Pharmacy has been providing free drive-thru testing sites across San Diego County, but some have reported significant delays in receiving test results.“I thought I would try CVS because they’re popping up all over for free testing and very convenient drive-thru,” said San Diego resident Michelle Naidenoff.“It’s a self-administered test, had the test done, was given a sheet originally it said 2-4 days for results, and then they had crossed it out the time of the testing and said it could be up to 10 days.”Ten days later, Naidenoff still had no answers.“Then, on the 16th day, I called, and I was on hold a couple of times,” she said after being left on hold for too long, she hung up.Five hours later, Naidenoff said her negative test result popped up on the online website.“16 days, I’m thinking it’s basically useless,” she said. “When it comes to slowing the virus down, obviously contact tracing is very important. The fact that they would have such poor quality of care for follow up was alarming.”According to CVS, all patient samples collected through the testing sites are sent to off-site locations. The independent, third-party labs are then responsible for processing and delivering the results, according to CVS.
