It's not the kind of showcase political parties traditionally host during an election year. But the Democratic National Convention begins a week of speeches and virtual events tonight, kicking off the home stretch of a very unusual presidential campaign. From virtual setups across the country this week, the Democrats will nominate and celebrate their 2020 ticket — former Vice President Joe Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris. The opening night theme, "We The People," will lead into an overall unity theme for the Democrats this week.Sen. Bernie Sanders, who battled Biden from the progressive flank during the primary cycle, is among Monday's headliners. He's scheduled to take the podium beginning at 10 p.m. ET.Also appearing Monday is John Kasich, a Republican and former governor or Ohio. He ran for president during the 2016 cycle. Finally, former First Lady Michelle Obama will take the stage on Monday. Her speech at the 2016 DNC included one of the week's standout quotes: "Our motto is, 'When they go low, we go high.'"Since Harris joined Biden on the ticket, they've coalesced around certain themes, including the former vice president's ongoing call that 2020 is a battle for the "soul of the nation."But at the campaign's core now is trying to persuade voters that they are best equipped to lead the U.S. out of the coronavirus pandemic. The televised portion of Monday's convention begins at 9 p.m. ET. Below is the tentative list of speakers, according to the DNC website.Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota)Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nevada)Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-New York)Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-Michigan)Former Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio)Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-South Carolina)Convention Chairman Bennie ThompsonRep. Gwen Moore (D-Wisconsin)Sen. Doug Jones (D-Alabama)Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont)Former First Lady Michelle ObamaMusicians Leon Bridges and Maggie Rogers are also slated to perform during Monday's televised event. 1961

It is a ceremony which has been branded "awful" and "sexist" and criticized for taking tennis "back to zero."Much to the dismay of many on social media, some of the sport's leading young players taking part in this week's Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan were on Sunday forced to choose a female model, who had the letter 'A' or 'B' hidden on her body, to determine the round-robin group they would play in at the tournament. The players were then escorted down a catwalk, arm-in-arm with the model, who would reveal the letter -- which corresponded to the round-robin group -- to the audience and cameras. French tennis player Alize Cornet tweeted: "Good job ATP World Tour. Supposed to be a futurist event right? #backtozero."Also on Twitter, tennis coach Judy Murray, who is the mum of former world No.1 Andy Murray, described the ceremony as "awful."Writing for sport360.com, journalist Reem Abulleil, who was at the draw ceremony, wrote: "There was inappropriate dancing, gloves that were removed by a player's teeth, and many more cringe-worthy moments but I'll spare you the details."Most of the players looked visibly awkward, while some laughed their way through it. I personally felt deeply sad watching it all unfold."The ceremony was sponsored by Red Bull and, in a joint statement, the drinks company and the ATP apologized for the offense which had been caused."The intention was to integrate Milan's rich heritage as one of the fashion capitals of the world," read the statement."However, our execution of the proceedings was in poor taste and unacceptable. We deeply regret this and will ensure that there is no repeat of anything like it in the future."  1682

It’s the classic vision of Election Day – head to your polling place, check in and vote. But this year, the tradition at the base of our democracy will look very different. Ballots will arrive in the mail for more people than ever due to the pandemic. So, how does the process work? It’s streamlined and closely monitored. You, a voter, get your ballot in the mail. You fill it out and seal it in the provided envelope. It’s crucial you don’t forget to sign in the designated area. From there, you can add postage and drop it in the mail. Some cities have ballot drop boxes that go directly to the county with no stamp or post office needed.Once the state has your ballot, it goes through different stations where independent workers open the envelope, scan the ballot, and check to make sure everything is valid. That process is often open for public viewing, either in-person or streaming online. While that’s meant to provide some transparency, mail-in voting is new to millions of people and some worry it’s not safe and secure. The head of the Federal Election Commission recently tried to put worries at bay. She is quoted as saying “there’s simply no basis for the conspiracy theory that voting by mail causes fraud.”And the statistics back that statement up. The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, found 143 voter fraud convictions out of 250 million mail-in ballots cast since 2000. That works out to about eight cases per year, nationwide. If you are voting by mail, there are three easy ways to make sure your ballot counts.1. Fill it out properly. Don’t go outside the lines or make any stray markings on the ballot.2. Sign your envelope and make sure the signature matches what you have on file.3. And vote early. Experts say it’s the best way to make sure your vote counts. 1801

Incredible video captured by researchers at Florida Atlantic University captured the blacktip shark's annual migration off Florida’s southeast coast.FAU researchers refer to the blacktip shark's as the "snowbirds of the sea". The sharks migrate south during the cold months and head up north when the weather, and water, start to warm back up. They leave the north when water temperatures drop below 71 degrees Fahrenheit and start heading south. The video was taken by FAU researchers on February 27, right off MacArthur Park in Singer Island.“Last year, we saw a dramatic decline in the number of blacktip sharks that migrated south. In fact, it was so low that we estimated the population to be about one-third of what we have seen in previous years,” said Kajiura, a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and director of the Elasmobranch Research Laboratory in FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Science. “We want to make sure that these snowbirds come back to South Florida, because if they don’t, it will have a huge ecological impact in this region.”  According to researchers, this year's video off of  MacArthur Park in Singer Island shows dramatically fewer blacktip sharks during migration season as compared to video footage from previous years.       Mary Stringini is a Digital Reporter for ABC Action News. In the midst of a global pandemic, there's a new challenge to millions of Americans’ health insurance. The Supreme Court will hear arguments Tuesday on the Affordable Care Act.“If the ACA is repealed, millions of people across the country will lose access to their health care, but not only that, millions of people who have preexisting conditions will lose protections, which were put in place through the ACA that allows them to not be discriminated against from insurance companies,” said Rosemary Enobakhare, Director of HealthCareVoter.org.Texas is arguing the ACA is unconstitutional since Congress got rid of the tax penalty it carried if you didn't have insurance.Even though the high court has a new conservative judge and majority, legal experts don't think the justices will strike down the entire law.Even advocates for the ACA admit it needs to be improved, but don't want to see vulnerable populations lose coverage in the meantime.“When all the dust settles, and everything clears, and it's time to get to work, we’ve got to make sure to remind people what they ran on and we’ve got make sure that we have people fighting for folks in their lives and making sure they're prioritize health care,” said Enobakhare.Healthcare Voter would like to see Medicaid expanded in all states. They also want lower costs for prescription drugs.“In the United States, people pay 0 to 0 a viable. Folks who have diabetes need multiple vials of insulin in order to be able to manage their condition and so people are paying thousands of dollars, monthly, and this is with insurance to be able to stay alive. That is unacceptable,” said Enobakhare. The Supreme Court will not issue a ruling on the ACA until next year. 1728
