DENVER, Colo. — A Colorado man is trying to find the silver lining in the wildfires by turning his photography into an opportunity to help those affected most.Jeremy Janus was driving back to Denver from Rocky Mountain National Arsenal Friday and he couldn’t believe his eyes.“I saw the smoke plume coming toward Denver and as much as it pained me I knew I had to take photos of it,” Janus said.Janus captured four photos of the smokey skies enhancing the beauty of the sunset.“This photo is called the “Nature That Binds Us,” Janus said. “While I knew these trees were going to be fine, far off in the distance there is also a lot of wildlife and nature that’s also getting destroyed.”He got into photography four years ago to heal a battle with depression and anxiety. Now he runs his own business called Jeremy Janus Photography.“Because of my background where I came from in photography, being a light in the darkness, how do you make positive situations out of bad ones?” Janus said. “I don’t want to profit off of devastation.”Janus has agreed to sell the photos and donate the money to Denver7 Gives.Denver7 is working with United Way of Larimer County and Community Foundation of Boulder County to ensure every dollar raised helps Coloradans who have lost so much.“My heart broke just seeing this because it made me think about all the people affected by it, all the wildlife, wilderness,” he said. The photos start at . Deputies say a woman attacked a mother and daughter on a Greyhound bus that had departed from Las Vegas. According to investigators, three strangers helped to save the child's life. The bus left Las Vegas shortly after 7 a.m. Monday and was headed to San Francisco. Teresa Ann Andrade Madrigal attacked the mother and child, just 45 minutes after leaving the station in Bakersfield, authorities report."The lady had the baby in her hand," said one passenger, "...and next thing I know, I heard she has a knife."Investigators say Madrigal appeared to be delusional. They say Madrigal grabbed the child around the neck and held her at knife point. That's when the child's mother started to fight the attacker.Soon, the bus driver and two other passengers jumped into action. The mother was stabbed in the abdomen. The men were able to help get the child  away from the suspect. In total, five people were hurt. We're told Madrigal, who was speaking to herself, was initially asked to get off the bus. The driver felt that it was safe to let the woman back on the bus after speaking with her outside.Right now, the investigation into this incident is ongoing. Investigators say Madrigal also stabbed herself. The child's mother, who has not been identified, had surgery on Monday.  She is expected to make a full recovery. The child had red marks around her neck.    1434

Data shows the number of prison inmates testing positive for the coronavirus soared well past the 50,000 mark this week. The increase is a sign that recent outbreaks are threatening to undo control measures put in place earlier in the pandemic. At the end of June, the total number of coronavirus cases among prisoners had reached at least 52,649, an increase of 8% from the week before. That's according to data compiled by the Marshall Project, a nonprofit news organization focusing on criminal justice, and The Associated Press. Of those, at least 35,796 have recovered, and at least 616 inmates have died. 618

Demonstrators have staged themselves at the entrance of CoreCivic’s headquarters in Nashville to “defend families and demand an end to private prisons.” Helicopter footage showed several tents set up around the building, including some banners that read “how many kids have to be jailed before you care?”Demonstrators also replaced the Tennessee flag with the words "No Borders."“CoreCivic is a human rights disaster in our own backyard,” Jeannie Alexander, of No Exceptions Prison Collective, said in a statement. The Nashville-based private prison contracts with ICE. CoreCivic released a statement, saying the facility doesn't "provide housing for any children who aren’t under the supervision of a parent. We also don’t operate shelters for unaccompanied minors, nor do we operate border patrol facilities."  845
