SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Winter weather swept through San Diego Sunday, making a dent in fire danger, according to a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Meteorologist."This is very good timing," NOAA Meteorologist Alex Tardy said, referencing the heavy rain across the county and even some snow that fell in places like Santa Ysabel in east county.Tardy said this year's heat broke records, "we exited a summer... is all time hottest for places like Escondido, Campo, Borrego Springs, Palomar Mountain. That whole corridor, which is most of San Diego except the immediate coast, the hottest period from June through October on record so that's made our fuels drier than they've ever been."The heat leaving San Diego vulnerable to a devastating fire season."We had the Valley fire in September, it could have been a lot worse, so this rain doesn't end our fire season but it puts a huge dent in it," Tardy saidThe winter forecast is fairly dry. Tardy said San Diego will be on the edge of some storms and may get a little relief from that but it won't be enough to keep us out of a drought."Regardless of getting a few storms that could give us heavy rain, a drier than average winter that's predicted starts putting us into the long term drought scenario and you never want to go into that especially considering it took us so long to get out of the one we were in a few years ago," he said. 1405

San Diego (KGTV)- A music teacher at Grossmont High School reached out to the community after students were in need of guitars for the upcoming school year. The students will be practicing distance learning.Music teacher Jeremy Cook says the support has been overwhelming.“The response from the community has been absolutely amazing. I’ve met so many people. I’ve driven across the county picking up the guitars,” says Cooke.Cooke has received 117 guitars for students to practice.“Last year we had upwards of 120 guitar students total,” says Cooke. “There’s a hope to be able to offer guitars to students who aren’t able to take the class.”A couple of weeks ago, Cooke went to pick up a donation from a woman named Pam Anderson in Mission Hills.“I took it back to my car and popped it open. I was flabbergasted at what was inside. It was a 1969 Fender Telecaster.”These guitars range from ,000 to ,000. Cooke says he had to let Anderson know its value.“She said that she appreciated the honesty, and she still wanted to donate the guitar to the school,” says Cooke. “It was her husband’s who passed away. She said she knew he would want the same thing.”The guitar will be used for student performances and in the newly renovated music room when students are allowed back on campus.Cooke says he appreciates all of the donations. As a thank you to Anderson, the teacher has set up a GoFund Me page to help her during the pandemic.Cooke says there is still a need for guitars for the upcoming school year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With the drop of a banner, the Rock Church replaced the old sign of the Body Shop Strip Club purchased by the church.The church says they’re unsure what they’ll do with the building, but Thursday, they made it clear it’s no longer a strip club.It was quite the presentation, dozens of people, a stage and a sound system. The announcement the church made yesterday officially unveiled Thursday.RELATED: Rock Church buys former strip club in Midway DistrictWith Pastor Miles McPherson leading the charge, a Rock Church banner draped over the sign of the former strip club. “I’m very excited for what this won’t be, and how we can help the girls moving forward,” McPherson said. The church and several investors brought the club and its license for .2 million.Councilmember Lorie Zapf said the move is the beginning of a new future for the Midway with a vision of parks, families and a new welcoming look. “Midway is no longer going to be the red light district of yesteryear.”The problem with the plan, however, is the building sits just feet away from another strip club. “They started harassing me in April, I was called about 15 times by their broker,” said Kathleen Morgan, who owns Les Girls Theater.“It’s easy to stigmatize this type of business. But we don’t even have male bouncers, we don’t even serve alcohol, we’re old school burlesque,” Morgan said.On stage Thursday, was a pledge to take over Morgan’s place. “I’m hoping that they can acquire the property next door. Once the Midway plan is approved, they’ll be able to plan for the future of what’s allowed here by the zoning,” Zapf said.Morgan says investors are trying to driver her out. The church says they aren’t involved in that. “That’s something that will have to take its own course, we’re not necessarily pushing that,” said McPherson.Morgan also says the business has been vandalized recently, adding if she sells, it won’t be to the church. “In 50 years we’ve never had this type of vandalism, we’ve never had these types of issues. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Video taken in Mexico shows dozens of migrants climbing over the border fence in Border Field State Park. The video, provided to 10News by Joebeth Terriquez Espinoza with AFN, a news agency in Mexico, shows people successfully climbing over the fence and onto the beach on the U.S. side of the border just after 4 p.m. A spokesperson for Border Patrol says agents arrested people as soon as they crossed, preventing anyone from getting away. A total of 24 people, 18 men and six women, were taken into custody. According to Border Patrol, 23 of the people who crossed the border illegally were from Honduras while the 24th person was from Guatemala. RELATED: Asylum seekers waiting in Mexico arrive for hearings in US"The Tijuana Police Department responded to the scene, successfully dispersing a large crowd still south of the barrier, deescalating the situation," the spokesperson told 10News. All 24 people arrested were taken to a nearby Border Patrol station for processing.
