BUDAPEST, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met here Friday with Hungarian President Solyom Laszlo, and put forward a four-point proposal to help further bilateral relations.     The Chinese vice-president proposed to maintain high-level contacts aimed at cementing friendship, to enhance economic cooperation and investment aimed at balancing trade, to improve personnel exchanges aimed at furthering understanding, and to join hands in promoting a healthy development of China-European Union relations. BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu called for greater efforts to fight floods and droughts Monday at a meeting held by the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.     Hui said governments at all levels should place priority on ensuring people's safety and taking care of people in disaster-hit regions. BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Wednesday called on police in Beijing to continue efforts in protecting public stability in the capital city, especially in areas near the Tian'anmen Square.     Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with representatives from Beijing's special police forces, traffic police, and armed police who were stationed in the Tian'anmen Square. BEIJING, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- A Senior Chinese official on Friday called for fresh efforts to furnish occupational security for police and take good care of their relatives.     Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with representatives of the relatives of police officers who died on duty.     More than 10,000 police officers died on duty with honor in the past 60years, and more than 150,000 more had been injured when protecting the country's social stability, Zhou said.     He urged Party, government and police departments at all levels to take into account of the occupational hazards of the police and take measures to provide better treatment for them.     The livelihood of the relatives of police officers, especially those who died on duty, must also be secured, Zhou said.     He urged the police to live up to the people's expectations and make new contributions to the Party and the people.

HONG KONG, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China displayed a scale model of its jetliner C919,the country's first home-grown large commercial airliner, for the first time at the Asian Aerospace '09 on Tuesday. With a scale of one to ten, the model was so far "the most precise one put up for public display," said Guo Bozhi, president of the Shanghai Aircraft Design and Research Institute, a unit of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, or COMAC.     The mockup was displayed at a prominent position at the Asian Aerospace, Asia's leading air show, side by side with industry giants like Boeing and Airbus. Together with some ten other Chinese mainland-based manufacturers, suppliers and service providers at the show, it attracted attention of media from around the world. It has a registered capital of 19 billion yuan (2.78 billion U.S. dollars), with the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission as the biggest shareholder.     The company has said the maiden flight of C919 was planned for late 2014, with delivery expected by 2016. It was intended as a single-aisle airliner to target the short and medium haul markets in eight to ten years from now, Wang said.     If successful, COMAC plans to produce 50 C919 aircraft each year at the early stage and annual production could reach 100 or even more at a later stage, depending on how it is received by the market, Guo said.
