President Donald Trump on Friday tweeted that an ongoing serial package bomb scare is "unfortunate" because the news media is "not talking politics" and slowing Republican "momentum" ahead of midterm elections."Republicans are doing so well in early voting, and at the polls, and now this “Bomb” stuff happens and the momentum greatly slows - news not talking politics. Very unfortunate, what is going on. Republicans, go out and vote!" Trump tweeted.Trump's tweet was his first tweet since two additional package bombs — one addressed for former Director of National Intelligence, one addressed to Sen. Cory Booker — were discovered on Friday morning.Trump previously called for unity in the face of the bomb scares during an event at the White House on Wednesday, saying that threats of political violence of any kind have "no place in the United States." President Donald Trump has issued pardons to a number of his supporters, most notably former campaign adviser George Papadopoulos and Representatives Chris Collins and Duncan Hunter.Papadopoulos was among the first to be criminally charged in Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Papadopoulos pleaded guilty in connection to lying to officials over his contact with the Russian government while working as a Trump campaign adviser.Papadopoulos was sentenced to 14 days in prison.The Trump administration claims that the pardon “correct the wrong that Mueller’s team inflicted on so many people.”Collins resigned his seat in Congress last year after he pleaded guilty to insider trading and lying to law enforcement. He was serving a 26-month sentence.Hunter was set to go to prison next month after he pleaded guilty to misusing campaign funds. Hunter was to serve an 11-month sentence.Alex van der Zwaan, who was sentenced for 30 days for lying to federal authorities, was among those pardoned. He was the first person convicted from Mueller's investigation. Also among the pardons were Nicholas Slatten, Paul Slough, Evan Liberty, and Dustin Heard. According to reports, the four men were convicted in killing 14 civilians in Baghdad during the war in Iraq. Slatten faced a life sentence, while the other three were handed 30-year sentences for the deaths. In all, Trump issued 15 full pardons and commuted all or part of five additional people. 1498

Postal workers in Maine reassembled a high-speed mail sorting machine that had been taken offline over the summer amid USPS policy changes instituted by the new postmaster general.According to WMTM-TV in Poland Spring, Maine and The Associated Press, workers at the Southern Maine Mail Processing Center in Scarborough reassembled one of the two mail sorting machines that had been decommissioned in the summer.The machine resumed sorting mail on Thursday. According to WMTM, the American Postal Workers Union pushed managers at the sorting plant to bring the machine back online.The other machine that had been disassembled this summer had been sold for scrap metal.After he was appointed to take over as head of the USPS in June, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, a longtime Republican donor and supporter of President Donald Trump, ordered several policy changes that he claimed would make the mail run more efficiently. However, mail workers claimed the changes significantly slowed delivery, even for first-class mail.DeJoy later said the USPS would hold off on instituting the changes until after election day but said the agency would not be bringing back sorting machines that had already been taken offline. 1222

(CNS) - Customs and Border Protection officers found 560 pounds of methamphetamine and cocaine, worth nearly million, cemented inside several quartz boulders at a cargo crossing at the Tecate Port of Entry near Potrero, the agency reported Wednesday.Officers broke open the boulders around 10:45 a.m. Monday after a big rig driver arrived at the border crossing with a shipment listed as "multiple tons of beach pebbles and stones," according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.Cemented inside the quartz boulders, officers found 229 packages wrapped in black electrical tape, officials said. The packages included 337 pounds of methamphetamine and 223 pounds of cocaine, worth a combined estimated street value of roughly .9 million.Officers seized the big rig, the drugs and the rock shipment."Hard to believe, but this isn't the first time CBP officers in California have had to actually break open rocks or other items to get at the narcotics that drug trafficking organizations have hidden inside," Jose Haro, officer in charge of the Tecate Port of Entry, said in a news release.
