Oklahoma teachers have been rallying at the state Capitol for eight days, but on Wednesday, many showed up for a new reason -- to register to run for office.The window to file candidacy opened at 8 a.m. as dozens of people lined up to turn in their paperwork.Laura Griesel, who was at the Capitol for most of last week, feels that many legislators are not hearing her concerns. The best way to change that, she believes, is to become a representative herself."If nothing else I would listen to the people that live in my district, and what they want to do," she told CNN. "And be open to what it is that they want to see happen in Oklahoma, and not necessarily what my own personal standpoint is on things."They say a change is neededGriesel teaches seventh and eighth grade science at El Reno Public Schools. She feels frustrated that there are not enough textbooks for students to take home and study with. She also has to apply for grants and donations in order to get basic lab equipment for her classroom."And it seems insane to me that we have to go to those lengths to get basic supplies. Things that every student across the world should have -- textbooks," the 32-year-old added.With a 3-year-old child and another on the way, Griesel also worries about making ends meet on her and her husband's teacher salaries. They desperately believe a change is needed.So her sister-in-law, a legislative assistant at the Capitol, encouraged her to join the race when a state representative seat opened in District 41. OMAHA, Neb.  - The DEA is warning police and parents to be on the lookout for marijuana and methamphetamine laced candy this Halloween.The DEA and police agencies throughout the country have seen an increase of seizures of drug-laced edibles, including but not limited to chocolates, suckers and gummies. The DEA's Omaha Division has not identified any specific threats but issued an advisory.The items are often professionally packaged and can easily be mistaken for regular candy or baked goods. Last year the DEA found marijuana-laced candies sold in packages labeled; Munchy Way, 3 Rastateers, Twixed, Keef Kat and Rasta Reese's; had been collected during Halloween.Signs of marijuana or meth-laced candy include unusual wrapping, appearance, unusual colors, odd smell, misspelled candy labels, or candy or food that is unwrapped or unmarked.Parents and caregivers should seek immediate medical attention if a child ingests drug-laced candy and then contact local police. 988

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Anyone browsing through 101 Marketplace in Oceanside will find an assortment of items for sale on the shelves and show floor.The antique and consignment store opened just two weeks ago amid a business landscape struck by the pandemic. But owner, Roy Cisneros is optimistic about the future."If today is the worst day, tomorrow has got to be better," Cisneros said. Cisneros describes himself as naturally optimistic. That optimism has helped him get to where he is now."We've been homeless for two years, me, my wife, and my kids," Cisneros said. Cisneros, a father of five, says he says it didn't take much to fall into homelessness. "You get behind in rent, that's all it takes, really, and then you are living in hotels."He says they hit rock bottom in 2019 when his wife and his kids had to stay in a shelter."We were like, 'You get in the shelters, I'll sleep in the car, we'll figure this out, we'll save some money that way,'" Cisneros said.At one point, Cisneros worked as many as three jobs at one time to make ends meet and save up just enough."I had saved up a little bit of money from 2019; we purchased a little tiny trailer, we stayed in the trailer for about six months," he said.In August, he discovered that space on 101 S Coast Highway was available and affordable. Cisneros says it was an opportunity he couldn't pass up. Though he heard of businesses struggling and closing because of the pandemic, Roy decided to bet on the days ahead."We took all of our savings, we sold the trailer, we got the store, and we're doing it," he said.Cisneros says he and his family are currently still living in a hotel, but he says that could change very soon."If you keep trying, eventually you'll get there," he said.Roy says they plan to give back to their community. They plan to donate some of their profits to a north county organization that helps the homeless. ONTARIO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Two children were found dead in a home in Ontario, California Tuesday night, according to police. Police say the responded to the 500 block of East Tam O’Shanter Street around 5 p.m. Tuesday. The Ontario Police Department said in a series of tweets that officers discovered two children dead in the home. One adult was taken to the hospital. Police say the cause of death is unclear at this time and the investigation is ongoing. According to police, the incident is being investigated as suspicious. Ontario Police are working a suspicious death at a residence in the 500 block of East Tam O Shanter St. One adult has been transported to the hospital for treatment.
