ESCONDIDO, Calif. (CNS) - Nearly three-dozen cats were taken in by the San Diego Humane Society after they were left behind inside a condominium in Escondido last month, the agency announced Wednesday.The property manager of a condominium complex in the 1000 block of East Washington Avenue called the group on Oct. 22 to report that one of the condo's tenants had abandoned the cats after being evicted, according to the SDHS.Officers from the SDHS' law enforcement division responded to the home and found 31 cats living in "unsanitary conditions" inside the unit, SDHS spokeswoman Nina Thompson said.The cats were taken to SDHS campuses in Escondido and Oceanside for extensive medical exams, Thompson said. One cat had to be euthanized and a majority of the cats were found to be suffering from numerous medical conditions, including upper respiratory infections, diarrhea, ear infections and heart murmurs.The remaining 30 cats underwent more than three weeks of intensive medical care and were in the process of being transferred to SDHS' rescue partner Love Your Feral Felines for recovery, Thompson said.The Humane Society encourages the public to report animal emergencies, cruelty or neglect by calling 619-299-7012. 1234

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) -- Video from a witness shows a driver slamming into a crowd outside an Encinitas bar early Sunday morning. In the video, a U-Haul van can be seen accelerating onto a sidewalk. Video shows pedestrians leaping out of the way before the vehicle crashes into the crowd. In a Monday news release, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said one person is in an intensive care unit while another is undergoing surgery with serious injuries following the crash. The department says a 24-year-old victim is in an intensive care unit while a 25-year-old is in surgery with serious injuries. All three of the victims were struck when the suspect, Christian Davis, 28, reportedly drove the van onto a sidewalk outside The Saloon Bar around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Two others received minor injuries when they detained Davis outside the bar. Deputies say Davis was asked to leave the bar because he was too intoxicated. After complying with the request, deputies say Davis got into the van, intentionally driving it onto the sidewalk. Davis was later arrested and is being charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of attempted escape with force. Davis is scheduled to be arraigned in Vista on March 3. Experts say language barriers, living situations, and access to healthcare are among the reasons Latinas make up most COVID-19 cases among pregnant women.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention collected information from 11,000 pregnant women who tested positive for the virus. Of those women, 4,500 were Latina.Tri-State data mirrors national statistics. Every two, three seconds you're going to see another butterfly coming through.”However, it's hard to predict when and where they'll be throughout the next few weeks. “The conditions were just perfect, I mean there could be over a billion of them, we don’t know. I'm hearing people from Palm Springs to Vista," said Merriman.He says he hasn’t seen a migration this vast in years. They're traveling at about 20 to 25 mph headed north to Oregon where they’ll breed, lay eggs and then die; the next generation will continue on north.
