ATHENS, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Saturday made a five-point proposal on boosting ties with Greece during talks with his Greek counterpart George Papandreou, stressing that China is willing to work with the European country to combat the lingering financial crisis.Wen arrived in Athens earlier in the day, starting a three-day official visit to the country, the first by a Chinese premier in 24 years.Papandreou held a grand welcoming ceremony for Wen after the Chinese premier's arrival.Wen said both countries were great civilizations in the history and the people of the two countries have always been amicable to each other. BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- China will launch a new national campaign to crack down on violations of intellectual property rights (IPRs) and on the production and distribution of fake and shoddy products.The decision was made at a regular meeting of the State Council Tuesday, which was presided over by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. The campaign will last for half a year, beginning from the end of October.The campaign will target pirated publications, software products, DVDs, designs and other products with IPRs, as well as violations of registered trademarks and patents, both at the production and distribution levels.The campaign will also enhance China's scrutiny over the import and export of fake goods and mete out stern punishment to businesses involved in the import and export of such goods.The campaign will target Internet piracy and the sale of pirated and fake goods via the Internet.Additionally, the State Council directed all government agencies to purchase only authorized software and their upgraded versions.At the Tuesday meeting, a draft regulation on gas use in urban areas was also passed in a bid to secure gas supplies and eliminate safety risks.

TOKYO, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Officials from the Chinese Embassy in Japan have visited the Chinese fishermen illegally detained by the Japanese authorities last week in the East China Sea.The Chinese government and people care very much about their living and security conditions in captivity, officials from the embassy in Tokyo and the consulate general in Fukuoka told the crew members.Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and other senior diplomats have for several times lodged solemn representations with the Japanese side and protested the detention of the Chinese fishermen, they said.Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo summoned Japanese ambassador Uichiro Niwa early Sunday morning and demanded the immediate release of the Chinese fishermen and their boat. Dai urged Japan to avoid any misjudgment of the situation and to make a "wise political resolution."Dai was the highest-ranking Chinese official to make a public response after the fishing boat and its crew were seized.The Chinese embassy officials learned in detail the crew members' physical and mental conditions, bought food, fresh water and medicines for them, and contacted their families.The officials told the crew members that the Chinese government was sparing no effort in urging the Japanese side to release them, and asked them to keep good health and calmness, support the Chinese government's work and have confidence that the government can properly handle the issue as quickly as possible.The Chinese Embassy in Tokyo is continuing to make representations with the Japanese authorities, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of the crew members and their boat.
