(KGTV) - A man identified as the son of San Diego convicted sex offender Matthew Hedge was arrested on child molestation charges Wednesday. 34-year-old Shaun Crocker, born as Shaun Hedge, is suspected of lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department."Crocker knew the 13-year-old victim and at this time no other victims have come forward," officials said.He is being held on million bail and is due in court Thursday.Crocker has a history of at least 15 criminal arrests in San Diego and Texas dating back to 2003. None of the accusations were linked to sexual conduct; Crocker was arrested on suspicion of fraud, burglary, and taking a vehicle for a joyride, among other reported crimes. The alleged victim's mother said Crocker is Matthew Hedge's son.Matthew Hedge was convicted in 1989 of molesting two girls and two boys in San Diego. He was treated at a state hospital and released to San Diego County in 2005. Hedge was originally placed on the grounds of Donovan State Prison in Otay Mesa but returned to the hospital less than a year later after admitting he spoke to girls and had a deviant fantasy about a child. After his second release, restrictions on where Matthew Hedge was allowed to live were lifted and he moved to a downtown residential hotel with his wife. 1343
(KGTV) — Despite the partial government shutdown, millions across the country will still be able to keep tabs on Santa Claus and expect their gifts this Christmas. As thousands of federal employees continue working without pay or are furloughed until the shutdown ends, agencies routinely depended upon this season cleared the air to reassure parents and kids. The North American Aerospace Defense Command tweeted Saturday that giddy children awaiting their holiday deliveries need not fear, they are here. About 1,500 volunteers who donate their time and efforts to put on the program every year will continue the 63-year tradition of tracking the big man every Christmas Eve.RELATED: Government shutdown: How San Diego is affected"In the event of a government shutdown, NORAD will continue with its 63-year tradition of NORAD Tracks Santa on Dec. 24. (CNN) -- Ikea is shutting down its only furniture factory in the United States. The Swedish company will end production this December at its plant in Danville, Virginia. Operations will move to Europe, where the company says it can cut costs."We made every effort to improve and maintain the competitiveness of this plant, but unfortunately the right cost conditions are not in place to continue production in Danville," site manager Bert Eades said in a statement. The Danville facility, which opened in 2008, employs 300 workers. Wooden products including shelves and storage units are made at the plant. In justifying its decision, Ikea pointed to raw material prices, which it said are higher in the United States than Europe. Ikea operates plants in European countries including Poland, Russia and Sweden.Senator Tim Kaine, a Democrat from Virginia, tweeted in 2018 that workers at the Danville plant were worried about how tariffs would affect costs. Kaine said the plant imports many raw materials.Since Kaine visited the plant, the Trump administration imposed tariffs on imports of particle board, a common Ikea material, from China.Ikea said Tuesday the decision to close the plant was not related to tariffs. It said that particle board used at the Danville plant is purchased from US suppliers.Ikea owns manufacturing facilities in nine countries, employing roughly 20,000 people.A recent shift in Ikea's retail strategy to adapt to the growth of online shopping has led to job cuts in other parts of the business. The company has been investing in online pickup services and digital fulfillment centers, and in 2017 bought TaskRabbit, an online marketplace for finding gig workers. It's also been opening smaller stores in big cities to attract younger shoppers.Ingka Group, the Swedish holding company that owns and operates most of Ikea's stores, said last year that it would lay off about 7,500 employees, or 5% of its global workforce, and build 30 smaller stores in major cities around the world in the next few years. The company said it could ultimately create 11,500 jobs as a result of this shift. 2122
