Sophie Trudeau, wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has tested positive with coronavirus, the CBC reported on Thursday. Sophie Trudeau became ill when she returned from a trip from the UK. "Sophie recently returned from a speaking event in the UK, and last night she was experiencing mild flu-like symptoms. She‘s feeling better, but following the advice of our doctor she is self-isolating as we wait on COVID-19 test results," Prime Minister Trudeau said in a tweet earlier on Thursday. The prime minister will undergo a self-quarantine for 14 days. Justin Trudeau says he does not have any symptoms. Despite the quarantine, Trudeau had conversations with several world leaders, including US President Donald Trump. "The Prime Minister and the President welcomed the close coordination between Canada and the United States in managing this challenge, including as it relates to the Canada-U.S. border, and looked forward to staying in touch," Trudeau's office said. 992

Special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election was allowed by a federal judge to review years of Michael Cohen's emails and other online data from the time he worked under Donald Trump, according to newly unsealed warrants used in his case in Manhattan federal court. In all, the prosecutors and FBI received permission from a Washington, DC-based federal judge to execute four search warrants on Cohen's two Gmail accounts and for stored data in his Apple iCloud account in July, August and November 2017 -- long before Cohen's office was raided in 2018 and he pleaded guilty in an illegal campaign contribution and tax prosecution led by Manhattan federal prosecutors. The revelation gives new illumination to Mueller's work throughout 2017 -- before he had brought the bulk of his open criminal cases against defendants like former national security adviser Michael Flynn and a host of Russians for interfering in the election -- and shows how extensively Mueller had tracked computer data of those close to then-candidate Trump and the early days of his presidency. The search warrants released Tuesday say that the special counsel's office referred "certain aspects" of its investigation into Cohen to the New York-based US Attorney's Office. After pleading guilty in the Manhattan probe, Cohen also later pleaded guilty to lying to Congress in a case brought by Mueller's investigators. They have said he's been helpful to them, but have not revealed how so.The DC District Court search warrants related to Cohen are not yet available. The searches done by Mueller are described as part of the probable cause that led to prosecutors to seek electronic phone and other data from Cohen in their illegal campaign contribution investigation, for which he was charged. 1823

Sen. Rand Paul defended why he opted to not self-quarantine while awaiting for the results from a COVID-19 test he took last week. On Sunday, Paul's office announced that the the U.S. senator from Kentucky tested positive for coronavirus. Paul's office said he was asymptomatic and feeling fine. Paul continued to work on Capitol Hill until he learned of his positive test.Although Paul was not around many staffers, he was in close proximity of a number of fellow senators. Republican senators Mitt Romney and Mike Lee opted to self-quarantine following Paul's announcement. Paul's office said that staffers began working remotely 10 days ago and he had virtually no direct contact with his staff. “Given that my wife and I had traveled extensively during the weeks prior to COVID-19 social distancing practices, and that I am at a higher risk for serious complications from the virus due to having part of my lung removed seven months ago, I took a COVID-19 test when I arrived in D.C. last Monday," Paul said in a statement. "I felt that it was highly unlikely that I was positive since I have had no symptoms of the illness, nor have I had contact with anyone who has either tested positive for the virus or been sick."The CDC issued the following guidelines for testing:Hospitalized patients who have signs and symptoms compatible with COVID-19 in order to inform decisions related to infection control.Other symptomatic individuals such as, older adults (age ≥ 65 years) and individuals with chronic medical conditions and/or an immunocompromised state that may put them at higher risk for poor outcomes (e.g., diabetes, heart disease, receiving immunosuppressive medications, chronic lung disease, chronic kidney disease).Any persons including healthcare personnel, who within 14 days of symptom onset had close contact with a suspect or laboratory-confirmed4 COVID-19 patient, or who have a history of travel from affected geographic areas5 (see below) within 14 days of their symptom onset.Paul believed he should have been tested because of a preexisting condition."The nature of COVID-19 put me – and us all – in a Catch-22 situation," Paul said. "I didn’t fit the criteria for testing or quarantine. I had no symptoms and no specific encounter with a COVID-19 positive person. I had, however, traveled extensively in the U.S. and was required to continue doing so to vote in the Senate. That, together with the fact that I have a compromised lung, led me to seek testing. Despite my positive test result, I remain asymptomatic for COVID-19."Although Paul was the first senator with a confirmed positive test, two members of the House confirmed positive coronavirus cases last week. 2706
