(KGTV) - The man who prosecutors believe was the target of a murder for hire came face-to-face Tuesday with those charged: His estranged wife and her gun instructor.Greg Mulvihill described the moments leading up to him being shot, saying he didn't realize he'd been shot right away and at first he thought he felt something in his back even though he could see the sniper in front of him. The North County father described a bitter custody battle in which he was accused of everything from drug use to sexual assault and molestation of their young son.RELATED: Trial begins in Carlsbad murder-for-hire plotMulvihill says he went up a remote trail in Carlsbad on Sept. 1, 2016, out of desperation, fearing his ex-wife, Diana Lovejoy, would reopen their custody battle. He took a friend, a flashlight and a small aluminum baseball bat but he thought he was picking up documents from a private investigator.Instead, as he approached the spot off Rancho Santa Fe Road and Avenida Soledad, he shined his flashlight around and spotted someone dressed in camouflage pointing a long gun right at him.Before he knew what was happening he was hit once in the side, the bullet exiting out his back.In the courtroom Tuesday, his ex-wife and the man accused of firing the gun, her weapons instructor, sat quietly, Lovejoy crying at times and shaking her head at others. Mulvihill was cross-examined Tuesday and the trial will resume Wednesday morning. 1506

Video of an Arizona guitar hero is wowing people around the country.  The guitarist is Ridge Brown, a senior at Ironwood High School in Glendale, Arizona. He played the national anthem for a school assembly and the video posted by his teacher has gone viral, with thousands of clicks and attention from national news outlets. The reason, Ridge is a student with autism. The performance in front of his classmates was the first time he played in public, and he nailed it. "I was a little nervous, but I always felt excited," Ridge told Scripps station KNXV in Phoenix. "Autism can't hold me back because I'm a real rock star." That's the message his dad, Glen Brown, loves to hear. "There's a very, very smart person inside there, trying to get out," Glen said. Glen's mission in life is unlocking that potential. These days, Glen said Ridge loves talking and interacting with people, but that wasn't always the case. Ridge was nonverbal until age three. Music was the thing that finally freed Ridge from his autistic silence when he started singing with the radio. "It helps me express every emotion I have inside my entire brain," Ridge said. Now, he has plans for an encore."If the Suns wanted me to play the National Anthem at the game I'll be doing that," Ridge said. At the end of Ridge's first performance, a thunderous applause warmed dad's heart. "I broke into tears," Glen said. VISTA (CNS and KGTV) - Prosecutors announced Friday they will seek a second trial against ex-NFL tight end Kellen Winslow II, who was convicted of forcible rape and misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure and lewd conduct earlier this week. Following about a week of deliberations, a Vista jury found Winslow guilty of raping a woman in Encinitas and exposing himself to two others, but deadlocked on eight other charges, including rape and kidnapping in connection with two other women. Jurors indicated that they were leaning toward guilty verdicts on each count, but were unable to reach a consensus, leading San Diego Superior Court Judge Blaine Bowman to declare a mistrial as to those counts Tuesday morning, and dismiss the jury. Prosecutors stated they will go forward with trying Winslow a second time. A judge set the trial date for Sept. 30 and denied bail, saying Winslow was a danger to the community.Winslow was convicted of last May's rape of a 58-year-old homeless woman -- Jane Doe 2 -- exposing himself to Jane Doe 3, who was gardening in her front yard in Cardiff last May, and touching himself in front of a 77-year-old woman -- Jane Doe 5 -- at a Carlsbad gym in February. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A pedestrian was hit and killed in the 100 block of Estrelita Drive in Vista Friday night. Police say the white pickup truck involved in the crash fled the scene. The crash happened at 8:18 p.m., according to police. Two hours later police found an abandoned vehicle down the road that matches the pickup described in the crash.
