POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - Family and friends are preparing to say goodbye to a Poway teen, killed while driving home from college for Christmas break."She always brings a positive vibe wherever she goes. Her smile can really brighten up the room," said friend Brandon Kim.For the friends of Kim Huynh, smiles for them are hard to muster."To me it was just shock," said Kim.Last Thursday night, the 18-year-old Huynh was driving back home to Poway with her older sister after finishing her first quarter at UC Riverside, when the car spun out on a Murietta highway, slamming into a tree and killing her. Her sister suffered minor injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation."She was one of my closest friends," said Kim. Kim met Huynh in grade school."Super smart. Ten times smarter than me," said Kim.Kim said his friend also had a joyful side and loved having fun. Huynh danced for one of Rancho Bernardo High's dance teams. After graduating, she enrolled at UC Riverside on scholarship. The pre-med student also hoped to help her immigrant parents."She said she wanted to become a doctor to give back to them for taking such good care of her," said Kim.After her death, friends gathered this weekend to remember a promising life cut short."Everybody broke down ... I want to grow up with everyone. The fact I have to leave someone behind breaks my heart," said Kim.The funeral is planned for Thursday. A Gofundme campaign has been set up for the family to help with expenses. 1499

PORT RICHEY, Fla. — Port Richey, Florida Mayor Dale Massad and his longtime girlfriend Caj Joseph were arrested Aug. 23 on domestic violence charges. Massad was arrested after deputies say he grabbed Joseph and pushed her to the ground. He was charged with a misdemeanor count of domestic battery which required him to spend the night in jail before his first court hearing Friday. In July, police went to Massad's house four dozen times, but he had never been charged with a crime. At the time, he blamed police activity on his girlfriends.“You look in there, see if I made any calls,” he said, pointing to police reports.Joseph, who was arrested Thursday for felony battery of a person over the age of 65, had been charged half a dozen other times for battery, violating protection orders and other crimes allegedly committed at Massad's home.“I'm a felon and I went back there and I don't want to be there,” Joseph told the judge. She also said she was unable to post a 0 bond to get out of jail.“I don't know how to get out of here. I don't have anyone I know. He's not gonna get me out,” Joseph said.Port Richey's city manager instructed the Pasco Sheriff's Office to investigate the case.He could not be reached for comment.Massad and Joseph were ordered not to have any contact with each other after they're released on bond.Massad denied the allegations and said he plans to plead "not guilty."A misdemeanor conviction would not affect his ability to serve in elected office. 1526
POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - The memory of Poway synagogue shooting victim Lori Gilbert-Kaye is living on through random acts of kindness, which she was known for often doing. Over the weekend, Emily Tolliver went to the Poway Dollar Tree with her 11-year-old son, Shawn. "I was just walking down the aisles, and I saw a toy snake. I was originally thinking in my head, oh, this would be great to scare my mom!" said Shawn. But Shawn quickly realized that the toy was special, noticing a note on the back. "I went over to my mom, and I told her look this says, 'Enjoy this random act of kindness.' And then we kind of read the note together and noticed it was for the person who had died in the shooting," said Shawn. Taped to the back of the toy was a bill and a dime, just enough to pay for that toy.It also had a note from a 5-year-old which read: "In loving memory of Lori Gilbert Kaye, 8/10/58 - 4/27/19"After posting the experience on Facebook, hundreds of people were moved by the gesture of kindness. On the very day they discovered the note Lori would have turned 61. "I knew that the community would be touched by it, but I was surprised it brought people to tears. Just remembering her and that a 5-year-old was remembering her on her birthday, the way she wants to be remembered, and that's through helping others and doing acts of kindness," said Emily."It really made me feel like anyone can make a difference, at any age or anywhere at any time, you can make a difference," said Shawn. Just last week Gilbert-Kaye's husband spoke at the Mesa Arts Center in Arizona, encouraging people there to do good for the world. "Here you have a wonderful, beautiful person where there was really no boundaries of religion, race or color, but she would help everyone, would look for people and help them," said Dr. Kaye. He said it was his wish to see random acts of kindness continue for his late wife. "Just little things in life, giving a little bit to charity, doing a good deed, is my way of preventing bad things from happening," said Dr. Kaye. The Tollivers say they plan to keep the happiness train going. As they decide what their act of kindness will be, they'll do so with Lori in their hearts. 2211
President Donald Trump on Thursday continued his attacks on billionaire Charles Koch, his latest broadside against the conservative donor who is vital to Republican candidates."Charles Koch of Koch Brothers, who claims to be giving away millions of dollars to politicians even though I know very few who have seen this (?), now makes the ridiculous statement that what President Trump is doing is unfair to 'foreign workers.' He is correct, AMERICA FIRST!" Trump tweeted. 479
