Jeanine Sherman's first thought on weight loss surgery was similar to a common perception: it's the easy way out or a last-resort method to lose weight. “And I thought, ‘really? Bariatric surgery? Am I to that point?’” she says. At 5-foot-5-inches tall and around 230 pounds, Sherman’s primary care doctor told her she was a candidate when she asked about weight loss medication. At the time, Sherman had a very high BMI but no other weight-related health issues. For three years, Sherman researched ways she could avoid surgery. “If I copy this lifestyle, live the lifestyle of a bariatric patient and if I learned their daily eating habits, their exercise habits, well then I can lose the weight and not have bariatric surgery,” she recalls thinking. After gaining 30 additional pounds, Sherman decided surgery was best. “I tell anybody that I talk to that, that day is one of the top ten days of my life,” she says. Maintaining her weight around 143 pounds now, Sherman found her voice through the hashtag #iamabariatricpatient. “Many patients were ashamed to talk about the surgery and didn’t want to share that they had surgery with friends or family,” Sherman says. A bride from New Orleans went all out for her beach wedding -- enlisting 34 of her closest friends and family to join her as bridesmaids on her big day.Casme Carter tied the knot June 2 in Destin, Florida, with her six sisters and 28 friends by her side.She says that she planned on having 50 ladies but some couldn't make it because of family reasons and an Army deployment.But why -- and how -- so many? Carter says she has a lot of friends from mentoring and participating in women's empowerment groups."I wanted them all to experience the love that they've seen that I've been praying for and wanting. I wanted them to witness it first hand," Carter says.When she told her now-husband, Gary Carter, of her plans, he didn't think she was serious at first, she says."He thought I was joking but then he was like, 'If anybody can do it.' He knows how I am and how many women are around me," Carter said.Carter says her husband's next concern was whether he could match that many women with men. "You don't expect me to have that many groomsmen," she recalls him saying.The bridesmaids were even more surprised than her husband because Carter didn't tell them that there would be 34 women in her wedding.She says she broke them up into a few different group chats to discuss details and told them just to get neutral beach dresses, and bring some bathing suits and khakis.The bride says the surprise went off without a hitch. A man is in custody after he tried to enter St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York on Wednesday night with gallons of gasoline, lighter fluid and lighters, authorities said.When a security officer at the cathedral stopped the 37-year-old man, he left the church and was detained shortly after by counterterrorism officers, NYPD's John Miller said at a news conference.The man, who is from New Jersey and is known to police, spilled some of the gasoline as the security officer stopped him in the church and forced him to turn around, Miller said."It's hard to say exactly what his intentions were but I think the totality of circumstances of an individual walking into an iconic location like St. Patrick's Cathedral, carrying over four gallons of gasoline, two bottles of lighter fluid and lighters is something we would have great concern over," Miller said.Before entering the church, the man retrieved the items from a minivan he had parked near the church, Miller said. The NYPD swept that vehicle and did not find any additional materials.The man initially told officers he was cutting through the cathedral to get to Madison Avenue and that his car had run out of gas, but Miller said when officers checked his car, it had gas.The man has not been identified but when he is charged with a crime, police will release his identity, Miller added.Authorities described him as emotionally disturbed but said it's too early to tell what his motive was or whether it's connected to terrorism.Nobody was injured in the incident and police are investigating.
