SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Mexican authorities are investigating a gas explosion at an apartment complex that hospitalized at least three and displaced 150 people on Christmas Day.The explosion happened around noon at the Edificio Hipódromo located at 12609 Col. Alba Roja in Tijuana, one mile south of the stadium Estadio Caliente.This station’s Mexican media partner Televisa reports that the powerful blast caused damage to nearby homes and left debris strewn in the streets on opposite sides of the building.Images from the scene show several windows and glass doors blown out, and collapsed ceilings inside some apartment units.The three victims were described as a 2-year-old child and two adult females, ages 25 and 45. All three were transported by San Diego Fire Rescue to UCSD Medical Center in the United States with second-degree burns. Their conditions are unknown at this time.No other injuries were reported at this time.The explosion prompted evacuation orders at the Edificio Hipódromo and nearby homes displacing 150 people, according to Televisa. 1066

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It's been a tumultuous year for East Village's Monkey Paw Brewery.The local brewing company was purchased by Coronado Brewing Company in July 2017, put up for sale in May of this year, and closed its downtown San Diego brewpub Monday.Coronado Brewing Company (CBC) CEO Brandon Richards said in May, months after finalizing the purchase, the sale was part of a refocusing for CBC.RELATED: Miramar's Intergalactic Brewery is closing its doors"While we were excited about the potential of Monkey Paw, the decision to sell came from the need to refocus our energy toward Coronado Brewing," Richards said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — In-person voting kicked off in San Diego County on Saturday, welcoming voters to the polls early through Election Day.The polling locations will be open through Monday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and reopen on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. There are 235 super poll locations in San Diego County for in-person voting.Margie Singley is one resident who chose to vote in person on the first day. She said it was fast and easy.“I thought maybe it might be crowded so if it was busy today I might come tomorrow or Monday to avoid the crowds,” said Singley.She said that she felt an added level of security by voting in person and did not have any concerns about coronavirus because necessary steps were taken inside the polling place. “Not at all, so no fear. Come on in!” she said.Liza and Joe Kennedy turned in their filled-out ballots to a drop off location on the same day. They said it was their first time filling out their ballots from home, and they appreciated being able to take their time in the comfort of their own home.“It’s a safety reason too, you’re not sharing pens, you’re not in the same little fold up booth. You can do it in the security of your own home,” the couple said.Mary Criscenti and Allyson Brenner are the poll workers who collected the Kennedy’s ballots. So why are we still springing forward and falling back an hour?Specifically, Proposition 7 was passed to allow the state legislature to vote to adopt Daylight Saving Time year-round with congressional approval. There lies the answer: congressional approval.Though California has yet to hold a vote, the change to year-round Daylight Saving Time would require Congress' backing.
