SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan is objecting to the early release of a man convicted of driving off the Coronado Bridge and crashing in Chicano Park, killing four people.Richard Anthony Sepolio, 27, was convicted of four counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one count of DUI causing injury in the crash on Oct. 15, 2016. He was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison. He is set to be released early after serving two years and 10 months of his sentence. Monday, the CDCR notified victims in the case of the release, citing prison credits for good behavior and the state's policy on release amid COVID-19. Stephan wrote a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), calling the release a "miscarriage of justice.""This very early release is unconscionable," Stephan wrote. "CDCR’s decision is re-victimizing the family and friends of the four people killed and seven injured who have been devastated by their loss and continue to deal with the financial, emotional, mental and physical trauma caused by the defendant. This inmate continues to deny and minimize the crime by refusing to admit he was speeding and denying being impaired while arguing with his girlfriend on the phone, which resulted in the devastating crash."The crash killed Annamarie Contreras, 50, and Cruz Contreras, 52, of Chandler, Ariz.; and Hacienda Heights residents Andre Banks, 49, and Francine Jimenez, 46. Seven other people were also seriously injured.Sepolio was traveling between 81 and 87 miles per hour when he lost control and plunged over the bridge, landing in the park below where a motorcycle rally had attracted nearly 1,000 people, according to Stephan. Sepolio had testified that another vehicle would not let him over into the left-hand lane, so he sped up twice to pass before the crash occurred. 1912

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Roughly 24 hours after stepping foot on Hawaiian soil, San Diego mother Christina Adele said that she and her family flew back home from vacation once Hawaiian state health officials had them quarantine after not accepting their negative test results.“I was in tears,” she told ABC10 News. She said that before the trip she checked Hawaii's entry checklist which requires a negative nucleic acid amplification test performed by a trusted partner, including CVS Pharmacy. She said that she and her family went to a CVS in Poway to get tested, which is where she said that she clarified with CVS staff that their testing would be adequate. “I said, ‘We're going to Hawaii. We need to make sure this is not an antigen or antibody test,’ and they assured me it wasn't,” she added.The family’s excitement quickly faded after their plane touched down in Hawaii. Adele said that Hawaiian health officials did not accept their tests and said that her family was instructed to quarantine for 14 days in their room at their resort.“[The resort staff said] if we see you out at all we're going to call the Hawaiian Police Department and you will go to jail,” she told ABC10 News. “I didn't pack much of anything for my son. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police and Crime Stoppers released photos Wednesday in the search for the burglars responsible for taking half a million dollars’ worth of items during break-in at the Fashion Valley Hermes de Paris store.Up to 10 people got out of three vehicles at the north end of the mall about 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, January 18. Surveillance video shows the group approaching the store and using a pry bar to open the front door.The group stole purses, jewelry and clothing worth 0,000 in just two minutes.RELATED: San Diego mall burglars steal from HermesPolice said the group wore hooded sweatshirts and gloves. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and President Trump may have met in the Oval Office Tuesday, but their accounts of what was discussed differ.Faulconer visited the White House this week to discuss the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement and raise concerns over polluted water flowing in the Tijuana River Valley. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have released officer bodycam footage of a fatal shooting involving a man in Mountain View earlier this month.San Diego Police say 39-year-old Jose Alfredo Castro-Gutierrez was shot and killed after officers responded to the 300 block of South Pardee Street just before 5 a.m. on Oct. 19 over reports of a violent disturbance involving a weapon.According to police, Castro-Gutierrez was staying at a home as a guest when the residents were woken up by him. He had reportedly been acting paranoid and ripped a metal curtain rod from a window and began breaking windows and other objects in the home.Video shows Castro-Gutierrez crawl through a window in the front of the home and run toward police, before officers fired their weapons and fatally struck him. A metal pole was found near him.Three officers fired at Castro-Gutierrez: One officer fired a bean bag round, another officer fired a Taser, and a third officer fired several rounds from his service pistol, SDPD says.Officers started first aid at the scene, but Castro-Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the hospital. The officer who fired his service pistol was identified as Isai Castillo, a two-year veteran of SDPD assigned to Southeastern Division.Gene Iredale, the attorney who represents Castro’s family, says they are planning to file a wrongful death action. He says the lethal force was not warranted.“This was a tragic combination of negligence and callousness that led to a needless death,” Iredale said.Iredale says his client leaves behind a wife and a one-year-old child. He says Castro is a Mexican citizen and a legal resident of the U.S. His wife lives in Mexicali, but Castro has been working and renting locally.He says Castro also has a history of mental illness.“This was a person in a mental health crisis and was paranoid,” Iredale said. “His last word as he rushed towards the officers was ‘ayuda,’ ‘help me’”In a recorded video statement provided to ABC 10News by Iredale, Castro’s wife was emotional, saying the family is shocked at what happened, calling her husband’s death an injustice.
