A police official confirmed that 15 adults were shot outside a funeral home on the South Side of Chicago Tuesday evening.The incident took place around 7 p.m. ET. Chicago Police First Deputy Eric Carter said that there was an officer outside the funeral home at the time the incident took place. Carter said that the incident began when a person in a black car began shooting at funeral attendees who were standing along a street. Funeral attendees reportedly began shooting back at the car. A police report provided by the Chicago Police indicated that the vehicle then came to a rest and those in the vehicle fled.One person of interest is being questioned, Carter confirmed. WLS-TV in Chicago reports that 10 women and five men were injured in the shooting. Six of the victims were listed as being in serious condition at local hospitals, the other nine were in good condition.The age range of the victims spanned between 21 and 65. 943

A prayer rally was held over the weekend for a 33-year-old man who died after being arrested by sheriff’s deputies in a Southern California grocery store.The man, Ernie Serrano, was at the store last Tuesday night in line to pay for his items. Sheriff’s deputies say when they arrived at the store, they saw Serrano tussling with a security guard and attempting to take the guard’s gun, according to a department press release.“While detaining Serrano, he continued fighting with the deputies and did not comply with their commands. At that time, a use of force occurred,” Sgt. Lionel Murphy with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department states in the release.Serrano was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Deputies say Serrano then stopped breathing. "Medical personnel on scene rendered aid and was able to obtain a pulse. Serrano was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. While at the hospital, Serrano’s condition deteriorated, and he was later pronounced deceased," the department states. Those filings include allegations one of the neighbors blared the “Gilligan’s Island” theme song and other music on loop at all hours to annoy the other neighbor, according to the Los Angeles Times.Billionaire Bill Gross and his partner are accused by tech entrepreneur Mark Towfiq and his wife of harassment and intentional infliction of emotional distress.It’s all about a 22-foot-long and 10-feet-high blue glass art installation, and the pole-and-netting structure around it, that Towfiq claims blocks his view, according to the Times. It was created by Dale Chihuly, a renowned artist known for his blown-glass work, including in the lobby of the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas.It was installed in 2019, but apparently didn’t upset the neighbors until this year when the netting was installed around it after it was damaged, according to city records obtained by the Times.In July, Gross was sent a letter from the City of Laguna Beach that said the netting, lighting and sculpture lacked the proper permits.Apparently, that’s when things escalated.Gross is accused of blaring music at all hours, including the “Gilligan’s Island” theme song, apparently in an effort to force Towfiq to drop the complaint.The two have both filed temporary restraining orders against the other, both are pending in court. 1409

A teacher in Kansas who just wanted to keep track of schools closing this fall because of COVID-19 cases, has created a nationwide database to help parents and educators.Alisha Morris teaches in Kansas’ Olathe School District and as she prepared for this fall, began looking into how other districts and schools were handling the first few weeks of class.“I was seeing a lot of articles about schools that were opening up and issues already happening on Day 1,” Morris, 29, said. “I thought, 'Wow!' Maybe these are a lot of repeat articles, and I’m just seeing the same thing over and over. Surely, there can’t be that many already,’” Morris told MyCentralJersey.com.She started keeping track of articles and COVID-19 cases and closures at schools in a Google spreadsheet. She shared it with colleagues and friends, then with her school district’s board of education.“The response I received was astronomical,” Morris said.As word spread about the database, more submissions came in. There are more than 700 entries for more than 40 states. Morris has set up a way for people to submit cases and school closures through her spreadsheet.Morris hopes to transition to a new system soon, with help from volunteers.“When I first created this spreadsheet, I had no idea that it was going to become such a big thing. A suburban Chicago police officer responding Sunday to a shooting at a bar killed a security guard who was just "doing his job," an attorney for the victim's family said.An officer from Midlothian, a Chicago suburb, fatally shot Jemel Roberson, a 26-year-old security guard working at the bar, Cook County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari told CNN.Several law enforcement agencies responded to the shooting around 4 a.m. at Manny's Blue Room Lounge in Robbins, about 20 miles south of Chicago, Ansari said.
