RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Police say a man who was suspected of burglarizing a vehicle was fatally hit by another car as he fled the Southern California scene. The 35-year-old man allegedly stole property from a car in Riverside, California, around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. The man's name has not been released. Authorities say the vehicle’s owner confronted the man, who ran away while discarding the items from the car. As he fled, the man tripped and fell into the path of a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander. Police say the Outlander struck the man, who later died at a hospital. The Outlander’s driver was not injured and is cooperating with police. 648

ROCHESTER, Indiana — The woman accused of crashing into four Indiana children as they crossed the street to get on a school bus pleaded not guilty Thursday morning, according to ABC 57 News in South Bend. The suspect, 24-year-old Alyssa Shepherd, had previously told police she saw the lights from the bus but didn't realize what it was until the kids were in front of her. She has been charged with three counts of reckless homicide and one count of disregarding the stop arms on a school bus causing injury. The crash happened Oct. 30, near the intersection of State Road 25 and CR 400 N in Fulton County.Police say Shepherd was driving a Toyota Tacoma on State Road 25 sometime after 7 a.m. when she allegedly "disregarded" the stop arm and lights on a stopped school bus in front of a mobile home park, striking four kids who were crossing the street to board the bus. Alivia Stahl, 9, and her twin brothers, Xzavier and Mason Ingle, 6, were all pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth child was also hit. Maverik Lowe, 11, was hospitalized. His family said he "continues to improve."A pretrial conference for Shepherd has been scheduled for Feb. 5, 2019, ABC 57 reported. 1218

(KGTV) -- One of the California Highway Patrol officers wounded during a shootout in Riverside Monday evening died and two others remain hospitalized Tuesday, according to the CHP.According to Riverside authorities, the shooting happened around 5:35 p.m. on the 215 Freeway near Box Springs Boulevard and Eastridge Avenue. CHP officer Andre Moye stopped the suspect driving a GMC pickup truck and then decided to impound the vehicle, officials said.RELATED: Cellphone video captures deadly officer-involved shooting in RiversideAs he was calling for a tow truck and filling out paperwork, the suspect entered the truck, grabbed a rifle and fired it at the officer, police say. Officer Moye was able to broadcast an "officer needs assistance" call.Of the first three officers on scene, two of them were immediately engaged, both of them were struck during a gun fire exchange, authorities said.One of them received major injuries to his leg and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
