SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Defense Secretary James Mattis has signed the extension of troops at the border, a defense official confirmed to ABC News. The extension was requested by the Department of Homeland Security after hundreds of migrants rushed the San Ysidro Port of Entry in a show of force. The move means the troops will be extended through January 31. Two officials told ABC News it’s unclear how many of the 5,600 troops currently at the border will be extended. The source also said there will be a flow-in of new forces as other units flow out because their specialties are no longer needed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Dozens of San Diegans are calling on the City Council to take action after they say a decision to let people live in their cars is creating homeless camps in their neighborhoods. Sarah Bonesteel has lived in the Pacific Beach area for 20 years. “It’s ruining the neighborhoods,” Bonesteel. Lately, she says camps of people living in their vehicles are destroying the lifestyle for people who live in the area. “It can be 5 or 6 of them all together on a block. I pay a lot to live here by the beach, and it’s ruining the environment.”It’s been about a month since San Diego’s City Council voted to repeal a decades-old ordinance that prohibited people from living in vehicles on city streets. Now, it’s legal again and some residents aren’t happy about it. “There’s pedophiles close to the schools, we can’t take kids to the library anymore. Off the 94 near Webster, RVs and giant vans line the street, one even equipped with a satellite dish. Frustrated San Diegans like Bonesteel have even created a coalition to try to fight the change. Another man says teachers at a local preschool are extremely concerned. In Ocean Beach, one woman captured a photo of a dilapidated school bus. “We’re trying to compile information, pictures of it all, so that we have it documented.”Some people living in their RVs told 10News off camera that they don’t have any other options. According to figures from AAA, the price for a gallon of gas gone up more than 50 cents in less than a month. AAA also says that the price has risen for 21 consecutive days and 27 of the last 28 days in San Diego County. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Dominic Pizarro lost his mom and his little sister on Thursday, after a wrong-way driver drove into their SUV on Interstate 805. Pizarro spoke with 10News as he and his grandfather drove back to San Diego to support Dominic's older brother - who was the first to hear the tragic news. Trevor Heitmann, 18, was behind the wheel of the 2014 McLaren?sports car that collided with the SUV, killing himself, and 43-year-old Aileen Pizarro and her 12-year-old daughter, Aryana. "Both of them were the most caring...people full of life, you've ever met in the world," Pizarro said. The way his mother and sister died has dominated local news outlets since it happened.Heitmann was traveling at high speeds Thursday, heading southbound in a northbound HOV lane at about 4:30 p.m. near La Jolla Village Dr. before the collision, CHP said. Troopers believe he entered via an HOV lane access at Carol Canyon Rd. Pizarro said his family was as close as can be - the siblings were all musicians. "(Aryana) was just the most unique little girl in the whole wide world," he said. "She was your average girly girl at times, and at times she was this feisty little 12-year-old who was just so smart, so mature for her age."The siblings were raised by their mom and grandfather. Their mom Aileen was a therapist devoted to helping others.  "Everything (my mom and grandpa) had went to us," Pizarro said. "Every single dollar, every single cent was put into me and my brother and sister."Pizarro said the family will never forget their caring mother and feisty sister, as he also recalled the last conversation he had with Aryana. "She was showing me all these unicorn things she got, unicorn pencils, unicorn notebooks," he said. "She was showing me everything that she was going to wear or take to school because she was so proud of everything that mom had gotten her for school."Aryana was set to start seventh grade at the School of Creative and Performing Arts on Monday.Pizarro set up a GoFundMe page to support the family during this tough time, but also asked those aware of the story for their prayers.  2175
