LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - Two women on vacation in San Diego had their trip ruined when thieves stole all of their luggage.Vivia Bradshaw and Yvonne Simpson live in Florida and New York. For the last 15 years, they've made regular trips to San Diego."We’re always coming back, it is so beautiful, we love the weather especially," says Simpson. "Everything's so beautiful. We've never had a terrible experience coming here before."But their trip this past week turn a turn for the worse on Saturday, while they were visiting with a friend in La Mesa.Simpson and Bradshaw say they had put their luggage in their friend's car at the Woodland Terrace Apartments while they visited his home."When we were ready to leave, I came back to the car and saw something a little strange," says Simpson. "I asked him, was that open? And he saw right away that someone had entered the car. I said check the trunk. He did, all our suitcases were gone. Every last piece. Three of them!"Thieves took all of their clothes, money, gift cards, jewelry, shoes, purses and personal items."Everything's gone," says Simpson. "We know they're replaceable, but it's the sentiment."The two women have been able to buy new clothes and necessities. Now they're trying to make the most out of their week-long trip. They've filed a police report as well. La Mesa Police says they hope surveillance footage can help identify a suspect.Meanwhile, Bradshaw and Simpson have a warning for others."Just be careful," says Bradshaw. LEXINGTON, Ky. — A car wash in Lexington, Kentucky is offering a wash, a shine, and a scare this Halloween season.Rainstorm Car Wash has transformed its facility into the ‘Tunnel of Terror,’ a family friendly event that will be held every Friday and Saturday night until Halloween.“With all the COVID stuff, a lot of haunted houses weren't open or anything like that,” said Reese Kemp, the manager of Rainstorm's Lexington location. “So we figured let's have a great time.”When Gov. Andy Beshear unveiled his plan for a safe Halloween, he urged people to avoid haunted houses, citing the likelihood that COVID-19 could spread in such tight quarters.Those concerns don’t really apply to a haunted car wash."When you're in your car, you don't have to worry about getting within six feet,” Kemp notes. “Your windows are up the entire time, the [employees] can have a blast and you don't have to worry about coming into contact or spreading or anything like that.”While your car is getting washed, people will notice employees dressed up as scary characters, trailing the cars to give families a fright.As part of the event, Rainstorm has partnered with local food banks. (KGTV) — An East County contractor made a huge investment in the lives and well-being of a pair of employees and their special needs son by gifting them a custom van.The gift for 14-year-old Hayden Welsh, who has spina bifida, and his family was presented by A.M. Ortega Construction in Lakeside. The van is retro-fitted with adaptive equipment, a power ramp, and a low floor for the family, designed to help the family and Hayden get around easier as he grows up."Yeah it makes a world of difference between lifting him, putting him in a chair worrying about him trying to transfer, this thing he's ready to roll in and go," Hayden's mom, Ashley, said. "It was 100% shocking. It's going to make our lives so much easier. I've been looking at vans but financially I can't make that jump."Company owner Maurice Ortega said the gift couldn't go to a more deserving kid."Hayden's had so many surgeries, and he comes flying through the door a few days after surgery, and he pops in my office and he goes, 'what up Mo?,'" said Ortega. "He wants to know what your life's all about. LA JOLLA, Calif., (KGTV)-- Several people at the University of California, San Diego [UCSD] were hospitalized early Saturday over alcohol poisoning, the school confirmed.A spokeswoman for UCSD told 10News that a total of seven people were taken to the hospital between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM Saturday for severe alcohol poisoning. The emergency calls came from three locations on campus. One was from the undergraduate dormitories at Eleanor Roosevelt College, and two ambulances were dispatched to the Graduate Housing buildings. The school could not confirm if the patients were UCSD students or guests. While drinking is allowed on campus for students 21-and-over, the spokesperson did not say whether the hospitalized people were of age.10News spoke to students who recalled a lot of partying going on campus Friday night, where students appeared to be celebrating the end of finals and start of winter break."It was finals week, so it was very hectic," third-year student, Tyla Turner said. "It's like, you've been so much in the books for three to four weeks, you can finally go out. And it's like once you haven't been doing it that much, alcohol poisoning comes faster. It just hits you like that, you know?"These incidents come just a month after Dylan Hernandez, a freshman at neighboring San Diego State University died, after falling off a bunk bed while heavily intoxicated. Hernandez allegedly attended a fraternity party the evening before the fall. Since then, the state University has suspended all fraternity activities.To prevent tragedies like this from happening, last year, UCSD implemented a special policy for situations involving alcohol and drug intoxication. They call it the Medical Amnesty Program [MAP]. MAP states that if a student or organization finds another student in need of medical attention after drug or alcohol intoxication, they can call their advisor or campus police for help. As long as that student only uses the MAP policy once within two years, he or she will not have to go through a formal student conduct process. Second-year student Sydney Brown said she had no idea this policy existed. But she appreciates that this is in place to protect her peers. "If you're ever in that situation, you don't want to get your friend in trouble. You don't want to get in trouble. But if it's a life or death situation, you got to do what you have to do," Brown said. UCSD said everyone transported to the hospital was treated for non-life threatening conditions. 2507
