Lorenzo Liberti is a teenage flag maker."The day that I stop working is a day that a hero could be forgotten," says the 15-year-old from Lakewood Ranch.Using pinewood and prodigious talent, Lorenzo works day and night in his garage hand-carving Heroic Flags, gorgeous, time-consuming tributes to American heroes he sells and donates to help people in need."As long as you're living, you're here for a purpose," he says.Lorenzo has only been creating the flags for the past eight months or so. He's made about 50 so far and raised thousands of dollars for children with special needs, homeless veterans, and Bradenton's Turning Points nonprofit."This is bigger than me," he says.The pandemic has inspired Lorenzo's newest mission: honoring medical workers across the country.He's raising money to try and get one of his flags in a hospital in every state: 50 flags, all across America. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Barron Hilton, the hotelier and philanthropist who led the Hilton hotel chain, has died in Los Angeles at age 91.Hilton, who succeeded his father, Conrad Hilton, as president and chief executive officer of Hilton Hotels Corp. in 1966 and served in that capacity for 30 years, died Thursday at his home, according to an obituary provided by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.He was invited by his father to join Hilton Hotels Corp. in 1954 as a vice president, the foundation said.After taking over as president and CEO, "he was known for creating shareholder value and expanding through innovative real estate transactions, including franchising and a bold move into the Las Vegas gaming market," the statement said. "From 1966 to 1996, he generated an average annual rate of return to shareholders of 15% with dividends."Hilton was the founding owner of the Los Angeles Chargers of the American Football League."Simply put, the modern NFL would not be what it is today without the vision of Barron Hilton," Chargers owner and Chairman of the Board Dean Spanos said.Under Hilton's leadership, the team, which moved to San Diego in 1961 following its inaugural season, won five divisional titles and one AFL championship during his six years as owner. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Four people were wounded, one fatally, when gunfire erupted Tuesday morning at a large party taking place at a mansion north of Beverly Hills where police had earlier responded to multiple calls of disturbing the peace.Firefighters and paramedics sent to the 13200 block of Mulholland Drive about 12:45 a.m. located three adults who had been wounded, and they were treated at the scene, then taken to a hospital, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department. A fourth person was found nearby with an injury to his wrist, Prange said, adding the victim's injury was not caused by gunfire.One shooting victim was hospitalized in grave condition and the other two were hospitalized in critical condition, Prange said.A woman about 35 years of age died at a hospital, said Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Chris Ramirez. Information was not immediately available on her identity.Ramirez said the other two shooting victims found at the scene were males, and they were displaying stable vital signs Tuesday morning.A woman who also had been shot went to a hospital in a private vehicle, and was in stable condition, Ramirez said.Ramirez said the crime apparently was gang-related, and no arrests have been reported. No suspect information was immediately available.Ramirez said the shooting was being investigated by detectives from the LAPD West Bureau Homicide office, and he urged anyone with information on the crime to call 213-382-9470.The house had been rented for the party, according to reports from the scene.A video posted to social media captured the sounds of the gunfire, at least six shots initially fired, followed by at least eight more.
