GOTEBORG, Sweden, March 28 (Xinhua) -- China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group signed a deal worth 1.8 billion U.S. dollars with Ford Motor Co. here Sunday to acquire the U.S. auto giant's Volvo car unit.Under the definitive stock purchase deal, Geely will own 100 percent of Volvo Cars and its related assets.The agreement was inked by Li Shufu, founder and chairman of Geely, and Lewis Booth, chief financial officer of Ford, at a ceremony at the headquarters of Volvo in Goteborg, the second largest city of Sweden. Geely Chairman Li Shufu attends a press conference after the signing ceremony in Goteborg of Sweden, March 28, 2010. Geely was named as the preferred bidder for the Swedish subsidiary in October 2009.Geely, which started to manufacture cars in 1998, is a major private automaker in China, with its headquarters based in southeast China's Zhejiang province. BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's upcoming visit to Brazil, Venezuela and Chile will be significant to furthering comprehensive development of China-Latin America relations, a senior Chinese diplomat said on Wednesday.Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang told a press briefing that Hu will pay a state visit to Brazil and attend the second summit of the BRIC countries - Brazil, Russia, India and China - in Brasilia from April 14 to 17, make a state visit to Venezuela from April 17 to 18 and a working visit to Chile on April 18."China and Latin American countries, all as developing countries, share extensive common interests. China has always attached great importance to its relations with these countries," Li said.China-Latin America relations have maintained a good momentum of comprehensive and sustained growth with increased political mutual trust, expansion of cooperation and more frequent cultural exchanges, he said.Hu's visit will be made at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Venezuelan President Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera.Hu will hold talks with President Lula and meet other leaders on furthering China-Brazil ties and boosting cooperation on major global issues, Li saidThe two countries will ink a joint action plan from 2010 to 2014 and agreements in the fields of culture, energy, finance, science and technology as well as product quality inspection, he said. YUSHU, Qinghai, May 20 (Xinhua) -- A mental health facility was established in Yushu, northwest China's Qinghai Province, Thursday to provide psychological counseling for the victims of last month's massive earthquake.The facility will ease the quake-victims' psychological trauma.The April 14 quake took the lives of at least 2,200, injured another 12,135 and left countless emotionally scared and reeling from the loss of family members and friends."It may take five to ten years for victims to recover from their psychological trauma. It is hard to heal such trauma without professional help," said Shi Zhanbiao, an expert with the Psychological Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).The facility was established by the institute and the Qinghai Academy of Social Sciences.It will help restore quake-victims' mental health, he said.China's central government has allocated 9 billion yuan (1.32 billion U.S. dollars) for reconstruction in quake-devastated Yushu this year, according to a statement issued after a regular State Council meeting Wednesday.The meeting also established a three-year target for rebuilding homes, schools and roads in the county.The Ministry of Finance will allocate more money in the second and third years.

BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government encourages Chinese businesses to set up economic and trade cooperation zones in member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to deepen cooperation, a senior commerce official said Wednesday.Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng, speaking at a preparatory meeting for the seventh China-ASEAN Expo, said China and ASEAN members have strengthened economic and trade cooperation since the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) came into effect on Jan. 1 this year.Customs data showed that bilateral trade totalled 39.12 billion U.S. dollars in the first two months of 2009, up 66 percent from a year ago.Chinese exports to ASEAN states rose 52.9 percent to 18.69 billion U.S. dollars while imports from ASEAN jumped 80.2 percent to 20.43 billion U.S. dollars.Gao called upon "eligible" Chinese enterprises to "go overseas" to ASEAN countries to set up economic and trade zones with infrastructure and industrial chains.He also said the two sides should implement the agreement on trade and expand trade, calling for an increase in the trade of high value-added products, including mechanical and electrical products and other hi-tech products.The two sides' enterprises should further expand cooperation and deepening ties in the agricultural, manufacturing, infrastructure, resources, and processing sectors, he said.The CAFTA, covering a population of about 1.9 billion, is the world's third largest trade agreement in terms of trade volume, after the European Union and the North American Free Trade Area.The ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.Under the CAFTA, the average tariff on goods from ASEAN countries entering China has been cut to 0.1 percent from 9.8 percent, while the six original ASEAN members - Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand - slashed the average tariff on Chinese goods entering ASEAN states from 12.8 percent to 0.6 percent.The seventh China-ASEAN Expo will be held in Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, from Oct. 20 to 24 this year.

XIANGNING, Shanxi, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Sixty of the 115 workers who were pulled out alive after being trapped for over a week in a flooded coal mine in north China will be transferred to big city hospitals for better medical treatment, local authorities late Monday.Currently, the survivors are being treated at five hospitals near Wangjialing Coal Mine, which straddles Xiangning County, of Linfen City, and Hejin City, of Yuncheng City, in Shanxi Province.The Shanxi provincial government and medical experts dispatched by the Health Ministry have decided to transfer 60 rescued miners to key hospitals in the provincial capital Taiyuan Tuesday to receive better treatment.A special train will be deployed by the Ministry of Railways to take the patients to Taiyuan. The train will depart at 7:00 Tuesday morning and the trip will take 4 to 5 hours.Each of the patients will be equipped with two medical staff.
