SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — New numbers show the trash continues to pile up at San Diego landfills.San Diego County's daily waste disposal per person increased from 5.5 pounds in 2016 to 5.6 pounds in 2017, according to the research group, Equinox Project, the nonprofit institute at University of San Diego."When the economy's booming and there's more disposable income, people tend to buy more stuff. That means more packaging, and it tends to come with more waste," said Nilmini Silva-Send, a researcher with the Equinox Project.San Diego County's disposal rate is among the highest in the state.More trash means more greenhouse gasses released and less landfill space. As for the biggest trash makers, Del Mar comes in at more than 17 pounds per person, followed by Coronado and Carlsbad. The Del Mar Fairgrounds and Naval Base Coronado are among several possible factors. "The higher the socioeconomic level, the more waste they will tend to produce," said Silva-Send. The cities tossing the least amount of trash per person are Oceanside, Chula Vista, and Imperial beach. The biggest increase for trash disposal happened in Santee, while the biggest year-to-year decreases were in Imperial Beach and National City. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Officials with the San Diego Padres announced Friday that pitcher Luis Perdomo received a a five-game suspension for his role in Wednesday’s bench-clearing brawl during a game against the Colorado Rockies.The scrum began in the bottom of the third inning when Padres starting pitcher Luis Perdomo threw a 96-mph pitch that nearly hit Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado in the back.Arenado threw down his helmet and bat and charged Perdomo, who countered by throwing his glove at the batter. As Perdomo backed up to avoid an Arenado punch, players and coaches from both sides stormed the field in an attempt to break up the fight.RELATED: Base-brawl: Benches clear in Padres-Rockies game“Arenado has received a five-game suspension for charging the mound and then fighting.  Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra has received a four-game suspension for fighting during the incident,” the team said in a statement. "Padres pitcher Buddy Baumann has received a one-game suspension for fighting during the incident.  Perdomo, Arenado, Parra and Baumann all received undisclosed fines in addition to their suspensions.,” Padres team officials said.Padres catcher A.J. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Northbound lanes of Interstate 5 through National City were shut down early Saturday following a deadly crash.The two-vehicle collision occurred just after the State Route 54 connector, according to California Highway Patrol. All traffic was being diverted off I-5 at the Mile of Cars. Traffic was also being diverted off WB SR-54 onto Highland Ave.Traffic gridlocked in the area, backing up onto the E St. on ramp in Chula Vista and westbound Sr-54 connector, according to CHP. Some motorists were seen turning around on the on ramp and driving the wrong direction.MAP: LIVE TRAFFIC CONDITIONSCHP reported that all NB I-5 lanes were reopened just before 11 a.m.The cause of the crash is being investigated. But CHP said it appeared a Toyota Tacoma was speeding in the emergency lane to get around traffic and caused a chain-reaction crash involving at least four vehicles.That suspected driver of that truck reportedly took off after causing the crash, CHP said. Officers were searching for that driver Saturday morning.One person died in the multi-vehicle crash. That person has not been identified. 1128
